Game of Thrones boasts a huge ensemble cast of memorable characters. That's why fans definitely notice when one of those characters is recast—which happens more than you might think. Here are some characters Game of Thrones has recast over the years.
Daario Naharis
Daenerys' Essos love interest was played by Ed Skrein in season and Michiel Huismanfrom season 4 onward.
The Mountain
The older Clegane brother has been recast multiple times. Conan Stevens portrayed the character in season 1, Ian Whyte played him in season 2, and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson took over the role beginning in season 4.
Tommen Baratheon
Callum Wharry played Cersei's youngest son in seasons 1 and 2, and Dean-Charles Chapman took over the role in season 4, when the part became bigger.
Myrcella Baratheon
The second Lannister child was also recast. Aimee Richardson played Myrcella in seasons 1 and 2 and Nell Tiger Free played her in seasons 5 and 6.
Dickon Tarly
Freddie Stroma played the character in season 6, but was replaced with Tom Hopper in season 7.
Beric Dondarrion
David Michael Scott played the character in season 1 and Richard Dormer took over the part in season 3.
The Three-Eyed Raven
The mystical character was played by Struan Rodger in season 4 and Max von Sydow in season 6.
Leaf
We don't see much of the Children of the Forest, but Leaf changes a lot between seasons 4 and 6. She was played by Octavia Selena Alexandru in season 4 and replaced with Kae Alexander in season 6.
The Night King
Richard Brake played GOT's big bad in seasons 4 and 5, and Vladimir Furdik has played the character since season 6.
