From Rapunzel-length mermaid waves to pastel graphic liner, it’s tough to name a beauty trend that Gigi Hadid hasn’t helped influence. The supermodel’s voluminous bombshell blowout at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival is certainly no exception. I, for one, will be recreating the look all summer long.

The Guest in Residence founder showed off the show-stopping side-part style created by celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos, at the red-carpet premiere of Firebrand (Le Jeu De La Reine) on May 20. She completed the look with soft glam courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta. The end result was one you might expect: Hadid looked like an IRL Barbie.

As for the rest of Hadid’s ensemble? Kai’s mom wore a custom Jean Paul Gaultier fishtail gown inspired by a vintage design that her sister Bella Hadid wore to Paris Fashion Week 2018, taking the whole “sisters sharing clothing” trope to a whole other level.

Hadid completed the gown with statement jewelry by Messika—the designer’s Roaring Diamonds necklace and bracelet from Paris es Tune Fête collection, Illusionnistes ear clip, Glam’Azone ring, Gloria double ring, and a pink and yellow diamond stone Toi&Moi heart-shaped ring—and sparkled her way down the red carpet.

But let’s get back to Gigi’s bombshell hair. Not only does it make quite the serious case for the side part, but it’s embracing three trends in one: The heavy side part, Old Hollywood waves, and the ’90s supermodel blowout. And that's exactly what Giannetos, envisioned for the style. “While creating the look for Gigi's first red carpet in Cannes, we wanted the hair to look like old movie star but same time modern and a bit more rough,” he tells Glamour

If you want to style a Gigi Hadid–inspired blowout yourself, don’t worry: New York City hairstylist Dan Williams reiterates that it’s much easier than it looks. Simply start with clean wet hair, and prep your strands with heat protectant, such as Redken’s Quick Blowout Spray. “It cuts your drying time in half, and provides light conditioning with 450-degree heat protection,” he says.

Next, apply a generous amount of volumizing mousse, adds celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Yepez. “Don’t be scared of mousse—it’s amazing to help get that voluminous blowout look,” she insists, suggesting Dove’s Volume & Fullness Mousse for the job.

Once your hair is prepped and protected, divide your locks into two-inch sections and dry each piece. A standard blow-dryer and round brush are great for the job, though Williams personally suggests a hot brush, like the Glamour Beauty Award–wining Revlon One-Step Volumizer, or a styling tool like the Dyson AirWrap if you really want to master the bombshell blowout aesthetic. As for technique? “Section hair starting in the back, and work your way up the head,” he says, and make sure to direct the hair out, up, and away from the face to ensure proper lift at the roots.

If you want additional length and volume, opt for some clip-in RPZL hair extensions, which you’ll want to incorporate once your hair is dry. (Hadid wore 26-inch RPZL clip-ins in Ice Blonde at the Met Gala.)

Pin each section up after drying to lock in the hair’s bouncy shape, Yepez says. If you want maximum volume, she strongly suggests old-school Velcro rollers. Let your hair cool for at least three minutes. Then, release and brush through each section, applying dry shampoo at the root for added volume. “[Dry shampoo] is the real key to ensuring your blowout lasts,” says Yepez , adding that you can maintain your blowout with dry shampoo for several days.

Finally, lock in the style with all-around texturizing spray. Et voilà, you’re ready for the Cannes red carpet.
