We consider ourselves quite lucky to snag a table as they opened for dinner last night!
Popular by reviews & they did not disappoint! It seemed frequented by locals and I understand why
We started with their house vegetable soup, a thick & hearty broth that was very good & satisfying and a house salad.
For entrées, my husband & I ordered steaks ( it is a steakhouse ) , both arrived at perfect temperature as ordered. The meat was flavorful & tender and both dishes had a fried egg on top & a generous amount of sauteed garlic - yummm! Also served with hot & crispy French fries . A great meal all washed down with a wonderful local red wine.
For dessert, we chose a light cheesecake with passion fruit topping. It was just ok.
      Service was quick & attentive.
The place had a local vibe, clean & roomy.
We would definitely highly recommend !

Great steak! A nice little gem in Ponta Delgada- make sure to call and make reservations! They were crowded at 7 pm when they opened and throughout the time we were seated. The steak is good and was cooked to perfection.

We wanted to try a traditional Azorean steak at least once during our week-long trip. This restaurant came very highly reviewed, and steak is their specialty so I felt like it was a good bet. The first day we tried to come, it was closed. The second day, it was open but every table had already been reserved for the night. We asked if we could just eat at one of the bar tables, and they agreed.

I ordered the half Bife de Lombo for 12€, while my husband got the half Bife de Vazia for 9€. In traditional Azorean fashion, they came cooked in heaps of garlic and a red pepper vinegar sauce and served next to a pile of fries. I thought my steak was really tasty. It's very different from the steaks I'm used to eating, but I enjoyed it. My steak was tender and perfectly cooked to a medium rare. The fries were fresh and crispy, soaking up all that extra red pepper sauce. My husband however thought the steak was just okay and thought there was too much oil. I did try a little of his steak and thought mine was better, so I would spend the extra few euros and get the Bife de Lombo. The half portions are more than enough food for one. Despite the fact that we had just spent a long day hiking, I couldn't even finish my steak.

I can't comment on the atmosphere or service because we didn't eat in the actual dining room of the restaurant but the young guy bartending did a satisfactory job. For the price, it's a steal, and while I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here like we did, you'll get a satisfying steak dinner.

Medium rare steak served medium well.

Read the glowing reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor so decided to make the trek to this restaurant on a Thursday night at 7 pm. They gave us a table after we promised to finish by 8:30. We ordered 2 full Bifes de Lombo and specified Medium Rare. The 2 steaks arrived at the same time. One was perfectly medium rare but the other was seriously over cooked. There was hardly any pink, even in the centre of the steak. Medium well. I was very disappointed but didn't want to make trouble.

Our waiter came by to check on us. I showed him my steak and said it was overdone. "A little bit too cooked but at least tender, right?" he replied. Honestly, it tasted chewy and over cooked.

I ate half and gave up. My dining partner did his best to finish my steak. We try not to waste food.

When we were finished, I asked for the bill. Waiter 1 nodded and went off to help other diners. I waited and asked again. Waiter 2 nodded and began changing placemats for a table that had spilled their wine. The 3rd request also went unattended. The restaurant was completely full and the waiters were very busy.

The bill came to 49 euros; 18 euros for each steak plus drinks, salad etc. I decided that my steak was not worth the full price of 18 euros and gave the waiter 40 euros. Suddenly, I had their full attention! They asked me to wait while they went into the kitchen to discuss with someone. I stood in the corridor for several minutes. One waiter told me that if I didn't like my steak, I should have told them. And I should have asked to have a new one. Perhaps that's right but what they SHOULD have done is ask me if I wanted a replacement instead of making a consolatory statement about the steak's tenderness!

The "discussion" continued for a few more minutes. One waiter explained that it's hard to gauge cooking temperature if a steak just came out of the refrigerator. With that lame and unprofessional comment, I realized that we were DONE. I told him that we were done and walked out.

A steakhouse cook prepares hundreds of steaks each week. He/she should be able to differentiate between a medium rare and medium well piece of meat! See my picture of the "medium rare" steak. I should have taken a picture of my dining partner's medium rare steak. Mine was almost fully white inside while his was the proper reddish pink.

PS. We had steak the night before at No Carvão. It's a casual local's churrasqueira. My steak cost under 8 euros, the meat was not as good a cut but it was properly cooked and juicy. Their sangrias, salads and roast chicken are also good.

I ordered a medium rare steak and got this over cooked thing.

Small space but pretty good steak. Need to make a reservation. We didn't do we did take out. The whelk salad and octopus salad were average but the regional tenderloin was perfect. Order ready in ten minutes pretty amazing

O Galegos was recommended to us by a local resident family. So glad they did and we took a chance on this place.
This place is small , maybe seats 30 and looks like a bar at first glance but don't shy away for in the back of this bar is one of THE BEST restaurants for locally raised beef EVER!
I had the "Bife Regional" the most tender steak I ever had, in a brown garlic sauce that simply is to die for! I kept dipping the bread in it!
The wife had pork loin which again was cooked to perfection and tender!
This is the place to go for steak, believe me! If you are near Ponta Delgado, you have to go!
I would make reservation because without them be prepared to wait a long time for a seat. We lucked out but place was PACKED on a Tuesday night!

Went here while on vacation July/2013. Awesome 'Bife a Casa'! Loads of garlic and the beef is so tender. The accompanying fries are freshly cut and homemade. They are not soaked in oil. If you like beef this place is a must while in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores. This establishment isn't huge and is quite popular with locals and tourists alike. Reservations recommended.
