This place was great overall! We found parking on a Sunday afternoon right in front and our server was kind and attentive. It wasn't busy so we got quick service.
The black bean noodle (Jajangmyun) was up to par with what I've had before, fried rice was also good, and the sweet and sour pork (Tangsyuk) was DELICIOUS - super crunchy and more than enough sauce.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 21, 20242 check-ins
My friends wanted to meet me at this place for lunch.
We ordered pork tangsuyuk and jjampong, jjajangmyen, chungpabeef. La is difficult to find great jjampong restaurants. So I wouldn't expect this place jjampong is great. I wouldn't disappointed anything because I was not expecting anything.
Friendly service and food came out so fast.
Old restaurant style.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 20, 2023
I want to give this place a higher rating but I have to be honest.. not the best. I LOVE Jjajangmyeon so I try my best to find the best places nearby. This place was deceiving it looks good in pictures but not in real life.
Maybe I just came on a bad day. Server was friendly-ish but wasn't very knowledgeable. Service was also insanely slow and worst of all, it wasn't worth the wait. The Jjamppong tastes like spicy water and the jjajang was subpar. Tangsuyuk was actually the best item.
Ambience is whatever this place seems like they need some help and maybe a more consistent chef. Sorry, don't think I'll be coming back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 23, 2023
There isn't shortage of Korean Chinese cuisine in Koreatown, but I think Heung Rae Gak is one of my top choices. This is one of those no-frills spots, but I feel like it's one of those restaurants that still serves the OG Koreatown clientele and it's one of my dad's favorite spots. The food is consistently delicious.
I love jjajangmyun and theirs reminds me of the bowls you get in Korea. Simple, with lots of onion and pork, and noodles with the optimal amount of chew. Their tangsuyuk, or sweet and sour pork, is also incredibly crispy and a great accompaniment
The service is what you would expect for a Koreatown restaurant, but the ladies are nice and accommodating. The food took a bit to come out and we were hungry, but once it arrived, it hit the spot.
There is an attached parking lot -- there wasn't valet when we visited, but I know this lot does normally have valet.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jul 14, 2023
Located in a small plaza in ktown this spot is the spot for late night Korean food cravings.
We came late at night after getting off our flight and the food definitely hit the spot. The service was quick and pleasant.
Order: jiajiangmyung, spicy jiajiangmyung, and a order of 4 fried dumplings to share
The spicy jiajiangmyung was really spicy so be wary when you order
Comment: this place can get busy in the day and with a small lot it can be hard to find parking but if you're coming late at night you should have no problem finding parkingHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jul 4, 2023
This place hits the spot when you're craving Korean black bean sauce noodles (jjajangmyun) and spicy seafood noodle soup (jjamppong)! I love that they have the combo options with the bowl split in half which is just like the delivery food in South Korea.
The jjamppong is spicy with lots of mussels, squid, and some shrimp.
The jjajangmyun is decent, not the best I've had, but will definitely satisfy a craving.
The tangsuyuk was crispy and light. I love that they served it with the sweet and sour sauce on the side so it doesn't make the meat soggy.
They mostly speak Korean here, but know some English. Most of the other diners were fluent in Korean, so that's a good sign that this place is good!
This place is next to Gol Tong Chicken the Korean fried chicken place. So if you're up for it, turn it into a bang bang and hit both spots!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2023
Came here for lunch with the wife and had a good experience. Most people don't know but the first thing you should always ask is if they make their own fried dumplings. It's actually a lot of work to make them so most places get them from somewhere else which is usually low grade quality and taste. I asked the lady and she told me that they make their own fried dumplings so I was very happy to hear that and had to try them. Fried dumplings were on the money. Very crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside. It was exactly what I was looking for. Jja jang myun was good but sadly I thought it was a little bland to my palette. Even my wife who usually doesn't like too much flavor told me she thought it could've used a bit more seasoning. Fried sour and sweet pork was good, but didn't stand out in any way. I don't have the picture here but I thought their best dish was jjam bbong (spicy seafood noodle). Broth was very flavorful and noodle was cooked perfectly.
Overall, I'd say this place is definitely above average but I don't think this place blew me away or anything. Service was great and even though the place way busy, the lady working their was very attentive and nice to us.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 12, 2023
shout out to bap ross on tiktok who recommended this place -
this place has the iconic half n half bowl menu!!
price is reasonable even in this economy, and more over, the flavor is legit. jjamppong had a very flavorful seafood soup base - will definitely come back for their jjamppong.
this 1 person combo menu that comes in a split bowl is the best when you want the best of both worlds!
we did wait a little before the server noticed us since there was only one person working at the time of my visit. and the water tasted a little funky to me but overall very legit korean chinese place in ktown.
thanks bap ross!

I was in Los Angeles, and happened to visit here for my late lunch. This place has been here so many years and it has been always my #1 choice when I am in Ktown. Foods are sooo good and taste awesome! Staffs are serving food with smiles. You can ask any question about foods and they are on top of every menu they have. If you are in ktown, and looking for the place to eat, try here. You will love it!!
