The Center for Accelerating Operational Efficiency (CAOE), a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center of Excellence, is still accepting applications for the CAOE Summer Experience in Quantitative Analytics (SEQAL) 2024. Applications are due tomorrow—visit: caoe.asu.edu to learn more about the program and eligibility and apply today! This STEM-based paid program offers a unique opportunity for students to delve into significant data analytics training and engage in real-world problem-solving. Program Details: This four-week virtual research experience requires no travel and is packed with valuable content. Participants will engage in approximately six hours of activities every weekday, from Monday through Friday, spanning the program's duration from June 3 to June 28, 2024. The program includes live expert-led workshops, group interactive problem-solving, and data processing. Participants can expect: • $3,000 stipend for participation in the program • Tackling real-world problems faced by the Department of Homeland Security • Learning new tools and methodologies, including data analytics, decision analysis, simulation, and operations research, with a focus on developing a stochastic simulation model • Networking opportunities with students, faculty, and technology experts nationwide The research experience will culminate in students presenting their analysis, results, and recommendations to CAOE leadership. The kickoff event, held yesterday, marked the beginning of what promises to be an engaging and impactful experience. Teams, comprised talented individuals, are now immersed in tackling real-world challenges related to "Cascading Events," ranging from cyber-attacks to natural disasters and human-engineered sabotage. Throughout this event, we'll witness the power of collaboration, innovation, and expertise coming together to address critical issues in homeland security. Happy February! Today is ASU Global Security Initiative birthday 🎂 We are nine years old, solidly into our tween-dom. We have come a long way from our founding with now: -4 centers (Center for Accelerating Operational Efficiency (CAOE) ; Center for Cybersecurity and Trusted Foundations; Center for Human, AI, and Robot Teaming; and Center on Narrative, Disinformation, and Strategic Influence) + affiliate Center for Wireless Information Systems and Computational Architectures; -Hundreds of faculty, students, and staff engaged in #natsec work; -$30M annual expenditures; -engaging across all of Arizona State University. So much going on so I'll share some of the recent highlights over the next week or so. Starting with our DHS Science and Technology Directorate Center of Excellence. With the widespread adoption of AI across sectors, the CAOE is working with end-user agencies like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to ensure AI systems deployed in real-world settings are trustworthy.
