Dès 1826, Auguste Comte enseigna les Cours de philosophie positive, notamment au Louvre, avant de les publier entre 1830 et 1842. Parmi les grands textes du XIXe siècle proposant une histoire des sciences et une philosophie de l'histoire, celui-ci se distingue par son programme scientifique et politique. Cet ouvrage expose le projet du système comtien. En effet, la hiérarchie des sciences, qui a pour clé de voûte les sciences sociales, a pour but de permettre la réorganisation de la société grâce à une sociologie positive. Cette classification des sciences pures ne saurait être exclusivement théorique et désincarnée. Il s'agit avant tout de mettre en oeuvre « une réorganisation sans Dieu, ni roi, par le culte systématique de l'Humanité ».

About the Author

Isidore Marie Auguste François Xavier Comte (19 January 1798 - 5 September 1857) was a French philosopher, mathematician and writer who formulated the doctrine of positivism. He is often regarded as the first philosopher of science in the modern sense of the term. Comte's ideas were also fundamental to the development of sociology; indeed, he invented the term and treated that discipline as the crowning achievement of the sciences.

Professeur de philosophie, Charles Le Verrier est spécialiste de la philosophie positiviste du XIXe siècle en France et en Allemagne. Nous lui devons notamment des études et éditions scientifiques consacrées à Friedrich Hölderlin, Friedrich Nietzsche et Auguste Comte. Il a également publié des articles dans la Revue de métaphysique et de morale.
