MUMBAI: A special court on Monday rejected the plea of fugitive businessman Nirav Modi’s sister Purvi Mehta, who urged the court to direct the Enforcement Directorate to intervene in the proceedings going on in USA.
She had sought an injunction with respect to the assets that also belong to her. Mehta is an accused-turned-approver in a money laundering case against her brother involving Punjab National Bank (PNB).
Modi was declared a fugitive economic offender and his properties were subsequently confiscated.
Rejecting Mehta’s plea, the court, however, said that under the Fugitive Offenders Act, there was no provision by which such a relief can be granted. “This court cannot prevent any person from prosecuting any matter. Either in India or even outside India,” the judge said.
