Oktay Basci was a four-year letterwinner as the quarterback of the Javelina football program from 1994-97. The Hogs compiled a record of 40-9 with him on the team and reached the NCAA Division II Playoffs each of his four seasons at Kingsville.

TAMUK claimed the Lone Star Conference Championship all four years with Basci on the team as the 1994 team finished as the runner-up in the Division II National Championship. The 1995 team made it as far as the semifinal round, while the 1996 and 1997 teams both made the first round.

Basci threw for 315 yards against Angelo State on November 15, 1997, and compiled 336 all-purpose yards against West Texas A&M on October 21, 1995. Both ended up 16th all-time in program history among single-game highs in passing and all-purpose yards, respectively, as the Hogs rolled over the Rams 35-25 and blew out the Buffs 55-17.

At the end of his playing career, Basci finished with 4246 passing yards and 40 touchdowns through the air, along with another 752 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
