Called the Llewyrrwood by the elves, the Neverwinter Wood is a place shunned by most folk in the north. The forest its dotted with ruins of the ancient empires of Illefarn and Iliyanbruen, as well as ruins from Netheril. There is also rumor of a feycross somewhere in the forest, connecting the Material Plane with the Feywild. The Druids, since making their home in Thundertree, have committed to protecting the land from travel across the feycross. Whether you believe the feycross is real or not, the Druids are said to control it's access or usage.
