If you have a bunch of old SNES (Super Nintendo) game carts lying around, it's a safe bet that you have a soft spot for 2D Mario and Zelda games, and of course the all-conquering, all-awesome Super Mario Kart. So, instead of dropping $160-plus on a new Nintendo 3DS, you should instead consider the $80 Supaboy, a "Pocket SNES."
The handheld comes in the shape of a SNES controller, only it has a slot for the game and a screen right there in the center. Not only can you use it as a little Super Gameboy, you can also plug in some real SNES controllers and hook it up to your TV.
First seen on these pages back in August, the Supaboy is now available on Amazon, and it appears to be quite capable. One reviewer has tried it with his collection of games and declares that even the tricky, Super FX-chip-wielding carts like Star Fox work fine.
Sadly, I gave my consoles away years ago (I had three (3!) versions of the SNES, from the UK, Japan and the U.S), so I'll have to stick to emulation. But if you have a nerdy friend of a certain age, this could be the most perfectest Christmas gift, like, ever.
