Puppy Mill Conditions

The conditions in this North Carolina puppy mill were so bad that rescuers had to use oxygen tanks and hazmat suits during the rescue of more than 300 dogs that had never been out of their cages.

Q: My wife and I lost our 17-year-old Maltese just over a year ago. We miss him terribly and are thinking about purchasing another. My wife has been searching online and found a breeder in Pennsylvania willing to send us a puppy. He has sent photos of the puppy’s parents and pictures of where the puppies are raised, and it looks reasonably nice. We would give this puppy a great home, but have some reservations about buying a puppy we can’t meet personally. What are your thoughts on this?

A: Thanks to the Internet, my mission of saving large numbers of great shelter dogs is possible. Before the Internet, it was virtually impossible to find out where and when there were great shelter dogs in danger.
