World's Largest Golf Outing helps Wounded Warriors

The world’s largest golf tournament is Aug. 3.

You can still get a spot to play if you want.

Appropriately named the World’s Largest Golf Outing, the event raises money for the Wounded Warriors Project. More than 9,000 golfers along with at least 500 wounded warriors will hit the first tee on more than 140 courses from Maine to Hawaii.

The tournament is open to all golfers. Players can sign up as a single or as a twosome, threesome or foursome. The format is a four-person scramble.

The deadline to sign up is Friday.

The tournament, first played in 2011, has raised nearly $2 million for the Wounded Warriors Project, whose mission is to service the needs of injured service members.

Dan Nevins, a WWP alum, is playing. An Iraq War veteran, Nevins suffered a traumatic brain injury and lost both legs after an improvised explosive device detonated under his vehicle in 2004. He turned to golf during his recovery.

“This amazing and fun grassroots event has grown into a force in aiding injured service men and women, their families and caregivers,” Nevins said.
