Kunta Kinte timeline

Kunta Kinte was an American-Gambian slave that was born in Juffureh, Gambia. He was born circa 1750 in the village of Mandinka and was raised and captured there.

At the age of 15, Kunta starts Manhood Training. The purpose of Manhood Training was to assist the Mandinkas with necessary skills to train the younger generation to become men. Lessons included wrestling, capturing birds unharmed and circumcision.

Kunta Kinte got kidnapped as a slave. Kunta was captured using chains that were tied around his neck, wrists and ankles.

The ship Lord Ligonier shipped 170 slaves from Gambia to the United States. The slaves were unloaded in Annapolis, Maryland.

Kunta Kinte was brought to Annapolis, Maryland, aboard the ship Lord Ligonier.

Kunta Kinta (along with 97 other surviving slaves) were sold at a slave auction in Virginia. Kunta Kinte was sold to a plantation owner called Master Waller. He got renamed as Toby Waller.

Kunta got his foot amputated to prevent him from running away many times.

Kunta Kinte married Dr William's cook, Belle Waller.

Kunta's wife gave birth to Kizzy Kinte, and Kizzy meant 'stay put' in Mandinka.

Kizzy Kinte was separated from her parents and sold to another plantation to work as a slave. On the left shows a picture of Kizzy and Kunta.

Kunta Kinte died circa 1810.
