The Edinburgh International Festival's first female director, Nicola Benedetti, said she is hopeful audiences will show a little "bravery" as the programme for the event's 76th year was unveiled.

Nicola said: “Where do we go from here?’ At a time of huge change and challenge across the world, it seems timely to pause to think about which artists can speak to this question and perhaps attempt to answer it, from a range of different perspectives.

“As a Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival has long been dedicated to advocating world-class music making and innovating new ways to bring it to audiences.

"I am immensely proud of this year’s programme and look forward to expanding on this legacy in 2023”.
