Each year, we at The BAAL Project run a sale for charity. This is part of our mission to give back and support those most in need in Lebanon.

This year, that charity is the Children’s Cancer Center Lebanon (CCCL). 100% of all proceeds from this sale will be donated to CCCL.

That means for each dollar you spend during this sale, that dollar will directly be donated to CCCL. You get delicious olive oil, and all the money you spend goes straight to charity. It’s a win-win!

Children’s Cancer Center Lebanon provides 100% free treatment for children with cancer. Click Here to learn more about CCCL.

Gus & Noura of The BAAL Project

Gus & Noura of The BAAL Project

About BAAL

At BAAL, we specialize in the production of small-batch Lebanese Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Olive Oil Soap born out of our family groves in the Northern Lebanese mountains dating back to 1845. BAAL was founded by us, Noura & Gus, 6th generation Lebanese olive oil producers (yes, that means our great, great, great grandparents were olive oil producers!) originally from the Koura and Zgharta regions of Lebanon.

Starting THE BAAL PROJECT was something that had been on our minds for many years but had always been put on the backburner with our hectic lives in New York City. After the devastating August 4th Beirut explosion and economic collapse that took place in Lebanon in 2020, we decided that it was time to do our part to try to give back to Lebanon and protect this sacred family tradition.

We officially launched THE BAAL PROJECT in early 2021 with the goals of: preserving Lebanon’s historic Olive Oil production heritage and supporting traditional sustainable farming practices, helping to create a viable livelihood for Lebanese individuals, preventing further urbanization and deforestation in Lebanon, and of course, to put Lebanese olive oil on the map as a delicious, premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

At BAAL we’re fortunate to bring together almost 200 years of family tradition with the benefits of modern knowledge and technology to create a superb Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Olive Oil Soap. You can read more about our journey here; thank you for your support!

Lebanese Olive Oil?

Don’t sound so surprised.

We bet you didn’t know that the area known as present-day Lebanon is where the olive tree originated from! Or that only later was the olive tree spread around the Mediterranean from Lebanon by the PhoEnicians?!

So yes — Lebanese olive oil — it’s the O.G.

Why ‘BAAL’? THE HISTORY BEHIND OUR NAME

BAAL Stele Louvre

A stele of BAAL inside the Galerie d’Angoulême of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France (Source: https://www.louvre.fr/en/explore/the-palace/treasures-of-the-eastern-mediterranean)

The name BAAL is an ode to Lebanon’s Phoenician history. In ancient folklore, BAAL was a mighty and mystical god revered throughout the Levant as the Lord of Rain and Dew AND A PROTECTOR OF THE CROPS.

FUN FACT! In Lebanon, the older generation can often be heard saying “El aard baal” or “الارض بعل“. This expression means that the land IS FERTILE AND DOES NOT NEED WATERING. And yes, this expression is a reference to BAAL himself!
