Antirrhinum majus ‘Maryland Appleblossom’
APPLEBLOSSOM SNAPDRAGONS

Antirrhinum majus ‘Maryland Appleblossom’ is an all-round, top quality Snapdragon.
Perfect for home garden displays, as well as commercial cut flower growers.

Delicately coloured Snappies on strong stems

‘Maryland Appleblossom’ blooms with white “Snappies” delicately blushing with shell pink mouths.

Specially bred for long, sturdy flower stems

But despite the gentle looks,  ‘Maryland Appleblossom’ has been specially bred to be tough.
With long, tapering spires of flowers, perfectly spaced along sturdy, weather resistant stems.

It has an exceptionally early, long, and prolific flowering, and is known for its ability to continue to produce even in cool and dull weather

Early start with flowers

Flowering begins in early spring if you sow seed for an early planting.
Flower spikes then continue on until the first frosts.
‘Maryland Appleblossom’ is valued for an ability to cope with both cool and hot spells of weather.

Florists adore ‘Maryland Appleblossom’

Florists adore ‘Maryland Appleblossom’ for elegant home vases and long lasting garden displays; while flower farmers value it for excellent commercial production in the open flower field or in poly tunnels.

Edible flowers

Snapdragon flowers are deliciously edible and make a sweet treat in salads, stir fries, fruit salads, drinks and as garnish.
So plant some in your veggie patch for both nibbling and cutting for vases.
Or just for letting the kids “snap” the Dragon’s jaws. Kids adore plucking the flowers and working the dragon’s mouth.

Deer & rabbit resistant

Happily rabbits and deer do not enjoy the flowers as we do, and usually pass by to tastier fodder.

Outstanding commercial cut flowers & length of blooming

‘Maryland Appleblossom’ provides outstanding commercial cut flowers, first up in the spring before almost all others. And it keeps going well into autumn.
It cannot be beaten for length of flower production.

Gorgeous in a pot too

Plant Antirrhinum majus ‘Maryland Appleblossom’ in Sun to Part Shade.
It also suits a wide range of soils, including sandy or clay, as long as the position is well drained.
And they are particularly lovely in a container or decorative pot because of their pristine, pretty colouring, and exceptionally long blooming season.

Quick & easy to raise from seed & fast to bring to bloom

Antirrhinum majus is actually a short lived perennial and will go on blooming for several years if left in the garden over winter.
But because they are so quick and easy to raise from seed, and fast to bring to flower from seed, they are often grown as annual.

Personally I leave mine in the garden from year to year instead, and just trim them back to reshoot each spring.
They will also self-sow in the garden for new baby plants next year.

80cm High of white and appleblossom pink spires x 20cm Wide of neat, deep green foliage.
Though if well fed these dramatic spires can also reach 1m. high.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow Antirrhinum majus ‘Maryland Appleblossom’ at any time indoors in a punnet for an early start with flowers. Or scatter directly in garden in winter and spring.

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First sow the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then pat the surface lightly to ensure good contact of seeds to the mix, but do not cover.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allow the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place it in a warm, well lit position (not in direct sunlight).

Because temperatures of 15-25C are best for optimum and rapid germination.
You can also use a heat mat if you have one.
Though it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.

Then continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle.

Seeds germinate in approx. 10-15 days.

Seed Count: 15 seeds approx. per pack.
(Seeds of this new release are scarce but we always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
