About the Event

Join twice-Kate Greenaway Medal-winning author/illustrator Emily Gravett as she introduces her book TOO MUCH STUFF which stars a couple of magpies, Meg and Ash, who are preparing a nest for their family. Inspired by adverts in the pages of a magazine, the two keep adding more and more things to their nest, but are their babies really going to need everything?  Emily will talk about how she works using inks and watercolour, and will guide you to make your very own bird, or maybe even a flock of birds. Did you know a group of magpies is called a mischief, or a charm, of magpies? Join this session to find out more!

Be Prepared
During the event, Emily will show you how to create your very own bird! You will need colouring pencils or pens, a ruler, scissors and the magpie template. Download the template here.
If you want to make lots of birds into a flock, you will also need string and sellotape!

About the Author/Illustrator

Emily Gravett has a true talent for creating exceptional books for children whose skill and wit are second to none. Emily first sprang into the limelight with the ground-breaking Wolves in 2005, which has been followed by such modern classics as Meerkat Mail, Again!, Tidy and Too Much Stuff which is shortlisted for the current Kate Greenaway Medal. Each book is unique and different from the last – and each features endearing, intricately drawn characters that touch the heart and tickle the funny bone. In 2019, Emily won the inaugural BookTrust Storytime Prize for her picture book Cyril and Pat. Most recently Emily has illustrated A Song of Gladness by Michael Morpurgo. Her next picture book is a joyous counting book 10 Cats which will be published by Two Hoots in 2022. Emily divides her time between Brighton and north Wales.
