Rui Moreira is the likely choice to lead the European election list for the AD. After Luís Marques Mendes announced the mayor as the leader of the PSD/CDS coalition and Rui Moreira himself expressed interest in his weekly commentary on CNN, a manifesto has emerged that opposes the choice.  This pre-announcement was not well received by a group of 20 PSD/Porto members and mayors, including Vladimiro Feliz, who was the Social Democrat candidate for the Porto City Council.  In a manifesto against the national leadership's intention to nominate Rui Moreira as the leader of the European election list, the signatories consider it "a betrayal of the people of Porto, members, supporters and mayors elected by the PSD", stating that they have no doubt that "it will leave a deep mark on the trust that the people of Porto have in the PSD". "Obviously, faced with the current rumors, increasingly certain, that the current mayor of Porto will be the leader of the list, nominated by the PSD, in the next European elections, we want to make it clear that we distance ourselves from this option," reads a statement signed by about two dozen members, mayors and former mayors of the PSD of Porto. The PSD and CDS-PP will meet tonight in Lisbon, with their national councils to approve the list of candidates for the European elections and approve a change to the name of the pre-electoral coalition AD, with which they will run in the elections on June 9. In the manifesto to which Lusa had access, the signatories state that they are taking "this position thinking only of the interests of the city, in ensuring its governability and the inclusion of essential proposals from our program". "However, the fact that Rui Moreira has seen his popularity decline throughout his terms in office will not be unrelated to this strategy of always trying to please both sides, without hiding strong attacks on the national party system, in accordance with the interests of his political project. A system that now has a great desire to integrate," they emphasize. For the signatories, the closeness that the independent Rui Moreira "has always maintained and maintains with António Costa, having even stated that 'Portugal was lucky to have António Costa as prime minister', makes it difficult, or not, to understand the recent rapprochement with the AD". "Porto has never forgiven those who abandon it. In the city's history, the leadership of the current mayor will be just a line and a full stop, without content", conclude the signatories of this manifesto. Alexandra Rodrigues, a member and businesswoman in the city of Porto, Alexandre Pinto, a member, leader of the PSD and member of the campaign management in Porto in 2021, Bernardo Abilheira, a member, former leader and mayor of the PSD in the city of Porto, Eduardo Carvalho, a member, former mayor, PSD candidate for president of the parish of Aldoar in Rui Rio's candidacy in 2009, Fernando Braga de Matos, mayor, and Filipe Sampaio Rodrigues, candidate for councilor of the PSD in Porto in the 2021 local elections, are some of the people who signed the document. In addition to these, there are Inácio Roseira, member, leader and PSD candidate in the 2021 elections, João Pedro Antunes, PSD leader, mayor, candidate for president of the Union of Parishes of Aldoar, Foz do Douro and Nevogilde in 2021, João Pinto, member and candidate for mayor, João Gonçalves, member, mayor and former president of JSD/Porto, José Pedro Fonseca, mayor, former leader of PSD and JSD, and Luís Magalhães, member, candidate for councilor in the 2021 local elections. The manifesto is also signed by Miguel Aroso, mayor and leader of the PSD, Miguel Corte Real, leader of the PSD group in the Municipal Assembly of Porto, Miguel Guimarães, mayor, Nuno Krug de Noronha, member and mayor, Pedro Vaz Branco, member and former leader, Rita Monteiro de Sousa, candidate for councilor and youth representative in the 2021 local elections, Tiago Mota e Costa, member, former president of JSD/Porto and campaign director of the PSD in the city of Porto in 2021, and Vladimiro Feliz, candidate for mayor of Porto in 2021.
