Netflix has shared an exclusive first look at Sir David Attenborough's new series Our Planet with Mirror Online.

Eight-part series Our Planet, from the makers of Planet Earth, is set for release on the streaming site in all its 4K glory on April 5.

The new Netflix series explores key habitats, from the Arctic's wilderness to the South American jungle to the oceans, looking at the animals who rely on them.

Our global exclusive clip, Birds of Paradise, includes never-before-seen footage of one of these animals, the parotia bird, as he tries to win over his potential mate.

Remote cameras were used to give a female perspective of the parotia’s display revealing aspects that were previously unknown - like the yellow eye change - and the true impact of the male’s iridescent throat patch.

The crew were also the first to film a successful mating with the black sicklebill.

Watch the clip to see how the male parotia tries to impress the female with an adorable dance.

First there's a cheeky flash of his blue eye as it turns yellow, and he bows.

"He has all the moves, fancy footwork, the whirling dervish, the head prune shuffle with spin," Attenborough says as if he's narrating Strictly Come Dancing.

It looks encouraging...and then he throws in his final move - a flash of his bright colourful patch.

Attenborough sound so proud, in a scene akin to guys showing off their moves on a club's dance floor, he announces the performance is a "triumph" and has won the female's approval.

This bird would put any professional on Strictly Come Dancing to shame.

The parotia are native to New Guinea and are also known as six-plumed birds of paradise due to their six headed quills. If you recognise them it's probably because they popped up on Planet Earth.

Netflix said of Our Planet: ”Thanks to an extensive team that includes some of the world’s best wildlife cinematographers, researchers and scientists — and the latest in 4K camera technology — each episode features several stunning sequences that have never been filmed before.”

Netflix has promised it will "entertain and captivate" and with Sir David Attenboroough narrating yet again we'd be inclined to agree.

The national treasure is narrating the UK version as the documentary comes in 10 languages with Penélope Cruz and Salma Hayek narrating the Spanish version.

The series aims to show us why the world matters to everyone and what steps can be taken to preserve it.

“All across our planet, crucial connections are being disrupted,” Attenborough said. “What we do in the next 20 years will determine the future for all life on Earth.”

Our Planet will be released on Netflix on April 5 globally.
