Lawyer Specializing in Gaming Laws in Canada and Ontario

If you weren’t at the IMGL 2024 Spring Conference in Tampa last week, you missed out! Just look how happy I am in this great photo by Phil Savage (at the IMGL conference having the time of my life with a bunch of friends. They're all just out of frame, laughing too). The IMGL put on a fantastic event, bringing together lawyers, regulators, accountants, and other industry specialists from around the world to discuss the future of gaming. My favourite panel was titled "The Need to Balance the Goals of Regulating With the Reality of the Gaming Industry in 2024". It featured regulators and representatives from Florida, Michigan, Belgium, Ontario, Malta, and Georgia (the country). Great job Louis Trombetta, Henry Williams, Jonathan Van Damme, Doug Hood, Zachary Sciberras, and Giorgi Tsamalaidze! Also, check out the IMGL magazine. Phil Savage is not only a master photographer, he is a thoughtful editor (I think that's him in the Robocop costume). You can find the April 2024 edition here: https://lnkd.in/gYcYpCQd I was grateful to take part in a panel put together by Ron Segev discussing the current state of sports betting and iGaming across North America. Preparing for the panel led me to reflect on the state of the gaming industry, in Canada and worldwide. In Canada, something big is happening with Indigenous gaming. It’s hard to predict how that market will continue to develop, but it seems that the wheels are already in motion for some significant changes. Globally, I am excited about regtech in the gaming industry, and the creative ways that companies like Mindway AI, ClearStake, and US Integrity, Inc. are addressing unique regulatory concerns. Lindsey Curewitz, Esq. and Wayne Kimmel, you did a great job describing the innovations and regulations in the U.S. market. Next up on the conference circuit is the Canadian Gaming Summit this June in Toronto. Look forward to seeing you there!
