Juvenile European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus)
I had stopped off to take a few photos, while on a cycle along the coastal walk which runs underneath the high white cliffs of Brighton, when this juvenile Herring Gull. calling loudly for food, walked right up to me, no more than two feet away at one point.
Back at base, I discovered yet again, that a seemingly familiar sight turns out to be far more remarkable than I had appreciated in full.

The European herring gull is a large gull, up to 66 cm long. One of the best-known of all gulls along the shores of Western Europe, it was once abundant. It breeds across Northern Europe, Western Europe, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Baltic states.
