Introduction: Head Crab Hat

About: I am crazy and inventive and never do things the easy way, though I do look to others' projects for help. was voted most likely to take over the world :D everyone who knows me will say I'm a crazy, eccentric …

HEY SORRY EVERYONE I've been away for a while swamped with work, and school , I made progress :)

( i just have some final touches to add, hopefully i'll get those done soon)

I'm sorry it took so long but I am finally getting around to making this head crab instructable, as requested by die potato. It's a work in progress but you can see my progress so far

I didn't know if you wanted a head crab hat or a head crab miniature model so I made a hat and will make a model to follow.

the head crab is inspired by half-life, and the design I'm kinda winging it as I go, I'm sure there are probably a thousand better ways to do what I did but who knows. also a lot easier if you have a sewing machine, which i do not so I hand sew everything which is why it may look a bit amateur.

the design is relatively simple and won't be too expensive (depending on where you buy your materials)

I hope you love it, and if its not what you were looking for stay tuned and I'll make a miniature head crab soon.

instructions will be uploaded as they come, i'm making it up as i go, and I am currently not 100% finished so join me on the journey to the finish line

Step 1: Step 1: Assemble the Ingredients/ Materials

any who what you need is the following stuff:

- pencil

-sketch book

- scissors

- needle

- fabric (brown and light beige ?)

-measureing tape

- washable marker

- fluff ( for filling)

- pins

- brown thread

- whitish thread

Step 2: Step 2: Make a Plan/ Measure Things Out

a)look at references and draw in the sketch book a plan,

b) measure things out.

  • circumference of head ( length all the way around your head)
  • lateral line :from forehead (how low you want it i.e above eyes) to the back of the head (how low you want it)
  • height of head ( length from ear to top of head ) easiest done by measuring ear to ear and then dividing it
  • any other measurements that come up, not sure at the moment

Step 3: Step 3: Draw Out the Head/ Hat Shell

1)using the measurements you have made, draw 4 identical semi circles(see pic 1)

a) use half the circumference to figure out the length of the straight edge of semi circle

b) the height of your head ( 1/2 length of ear to ear ) to determine height of semi circle

c) lateral line to determine the length of top of dome (not sure how relevant because you could just use a and b)

2) iron your fabric

3) take your washable marker and ruler and draw it out (see pic 2)

4) draw an extra 2-4 cm around the entire semi circle ( for cutting and other things see note)

NOTE: when drawing it, make sure there is extra couple cm (/ inches) around because when you stuff the hat, the hat will become respectively shorter, so to have it at desired length make sure you leave extra space

Step 4: Step 4: Make the Shell

  1. Cut out the 4 semicircles (see pic 1)
  2. Lay 2 on top of each other
  3. Sew a line about 1/2 cm from the edge of fabric, most the way around the semi circle but not completely around. (see pic 2)

NOTE : the amount of space you leave should be able to fit your hand, so you can stuff it with fluff.

4. Turn the sewed pieces inside out to hide the ugly seams

5. Stuff the shell with desired amount of fluff (see pic 3)

6. Sew the hole shut by folding the little 1/2 cm edge down and sew the inside layers (for prettiness) such that the seams isn't noticeable when sewn (see pic 4)

7. Repeat 2-6 for the other 2 semi circles , now you have 2 puffy semicircles (see pic 5)

8. Sew the lateral line edges of both halves together, flip inside out for a prettier seam (see pic 6)

Step 5: Step 5: Make the Legs !!!

To make the legs you need :

-the brown and white/ champaign coloured fabrics

- pins

- scissors

-needle and thread colours

- fluff

[ NOTE: there are probably easier ways to do this but I didn't have anything I could use to write on the fabric at the time of making these]

1) get your thread spool and use it to measure out the length of the legs ( I used 2 and a bit spool lengths, marked each spool by a pin) (see pic 1)

2) from the edge of the fabric, roll it on the spool until it is covered, mark it with a pin, (pic 2) so it makes a rectangle / square

3) cut it out to make a rectangle (I left my self extra fabric ~1/2 inch on the edge to account for fluff filling)

4) make 3 more rectangles so you have 4 (see pic 3)

5) sew the edges together (see pic 4) [NOTE: you can flip the fabric inside out so theres not as noticeable of a seam, i.e more pretty. i didn't do that because i thought of it later]

6) repeat step 1-5 with the whitish fabric, to get a white square thats the same dimensions of the brown square (see pic 5)

7) fold the white fabric in half long wise and then make a point at one edge, sew the edges together (see pic 6)

8) take your fluff (see pic 7) , stuff the white tube (see pic 8)

9) sew the just stuffed white spike to the base of the brown tube, stuff the brown tube (see pic 9)

10) take your brown thread, and on the inside of the spike, sew where the leg meets the spike at an angle so the legs aren't straight and have more definition, essentially sew it in place on an angle)

11) repeat for the other 3 legs

Step 6: Step 6: Make the Teeth! !!

this is much the same as the legs but in smaller scale

To make the teeth you need :
-the brown and white/ champaign coloured fabrics

- pins

- scissors

-needle and thread colours

- fluff [ NOTE: there are probably easier ways to do this but I didn't have anything I could use to write on the fabric at the time of making these]

1) get your thread spool and use it to measure out the length of the legs ( I used 2 and a bit spool lengths, marked each spool by a pin) (see pic 1) [note this it is smaller than the legs, and thinner so I used 2 of the spool lengths of the last spool, just didn't give extra fabric, and i had a thinner spool to go around it ]

2) from the edge of the fabric, roll it on the spool until it is covered, mark it with a pin, so it makes a rectangle / square

3) cut it out to make a rectangle

4) make 3 more rectangles so you have 4 (pic 2)[ note this pic has the legs before processing to show the different sizes of feet and teeth]

5) sew the edges together [NOTE: you can flip the fabric inside out so theres not as noticeable of a seam, i.e more pretty. i didn't do that because i thought of it later]

6) get a small spool you want to make the white fabric the height of the smaller spool (and roll it to cover the spool) (pic 3)

7) fold white rectangle in half (pic 4)

8) make it into a triangle, 2 of the 3 sides

9) stuff it

10) sew it to the brown part of the tooth (pic 5)

11) stuff it

Step 7: Step 7: Attach the Legs and Teeth

1) take your legs and teeth and position them where you want them (pic1) [note I made an approximate without adding the white but it doesn't matter when you do it]

2) pin the legs and teeth where you want it

3) sew the legs and teeth to the base (pic 2)

4) the essentials for the hat is complete.

STAY TUNED FOR FINAL TOUCHES :

- adding red to the inside of hat to symbolize inside mouth

- teeth for edge of mouth (surrounding head)

- GOOGLEY eyes? (not sure if i'll add them , but probably will )
