It's a good fast-paced fantasy book. I can’t wait for the next part.

The story is masterfully paced, with every chapter leaving you desperate to find out what happens next. The story had a lot of potential, and I enjoyed the plot! I would have loved to see a bit more depth added to the characters to make their journeys even more impactful.
Even though some people find fantasy difficult to read, you should give this book a try as the author's prose is so smooth and engaging, that the pages fly by.

The addition of a map adds to the charm of the great plot. In particular, the romance part of the book is beautiful and will give you butterflies. The way Eloise is being protected and embraced.
I enjoyed every part of the book and loved how things turned towards the end.
All the characters were amazing but my favourite was Kayden- a bad boy turned into a hero and a lot more. Friendship, love, and sacrifice collide in the face of a dark mystery. A resilient hero rises to the challenge.

Eloise Hector is the princess of Murwood who is born with a glitch. She is always been hidden and suppressed but when a tragic accident claims her mother's life, grief triggers an explosion of power. Eloise loses control, unintentionally sending her friends tumbling into the ominous realm of Shadowland. Kayden Parsons, an obnoxious jerk comes to the rescue not only to save her friends but to help her embrace the anomaly that’s kept her captive. As they join forces, sparks fly, aiding Eloise in harnessing her powers during a thrilling and mystic adventure filled with tension and flirty banter.

"The Wandering Star" by SP Mittson is that scholarly charm that made the readers grapple with post-book blues at the profane hours. Mittson's creation is a jewel, leaving me longing for a greater amount of Eloise Hector's enchanted capers.

The story revolves around Eloise, the princess wrestling with a puzzling error in her powers, coincidentally finding the risky Shadowland after a sad mishap. What follows is a jolting experience, sprinkled with coy chat, as she collaborate with her self-declared foe, Kayden Parsons. Together, they attempt to beat the clock to protect companions from the grip of the Spurned.

Eloise Hector's journey through the Shadowland is a thrilling adventure filled with flirty banter and unexpected twists.

The author has made a spellbinding reality where hazard and excellence coincide, enhancing the story with layers оf intricacy. I delighted in following Eloise's change as she finds her capacities and countenances the snags іn her way.

The plot grasped me when Eloise and Kayden combined efforts tо save her companions from the dull domain оf Shadowland, mixing sorcery and experience with a touch of authenticity. The plot is an outright exhilarating rollercoaster, complete with pressure and surprising turns.

The relentless pacing and flawlessly organized structure make it impossible to put the book down, creating an experience that lingers in the mind.

Generally speaking, "The Wandering Star" is an extraordinary book that transports readers to a charming universe of wizardry and secret. Mittson's narrating ability, combined with the characters, guarantees a captivating encounter.

As this book is just the principal portion of the series "The Shifter's Daze," I'm anxious to dive into the continuations and offer my perspectives on them. The engaging cover, combined with the grasping plot, makes this book a must-read for dream devotees. Plunge into this captivating experience; you will not be disheartened!

Quote from the book: “When darkness surrounds your life, you can either wait for the light, look for the light, ask for the light, or if you want, you can SHINE!”
I recently read the book "The Wandering Star" by author S.P. Mittson. The story is about Eloise's thrilling journey in the Shadowland.
This book is a fascinating fantasy fiction. It goes after Eloise Hector and Kayden Parsons. She is a princess of Murkwood. She has some mysterious powers to shift between realms which she gets from her mother Queen Elara. Kayden Parsons is the son of the mayor and a bad boy of the Murkwood, he thinks he is the king of Murkwood. When Eloise's mother died she accidentally lost control over her power and transported her friends to Shadowland, which is known to be the realm of a multidimensional demonic entity. It's interesting to read how she reaches out to her friends and fetches them out from Shadowland. How she defeats the darkness and Forsaken.
The narrative is enriched by the dynamic between Eloise and Kayden, putting in a coating of suspense and coquettish banter. The author has effortlessly entwined suspense, drama, mystery, magic, and fantasy in this saga.
This anecdote is an enthralling journey where magic and romance are woven. The storyline of the book is gripping and it will keep you hooked till the end of the story. This fiction is well narrated and well crafted, and every character in the book is well developed. The story ends with a cliffhanger so I can't wait to read its sequel.
I'll recommend this book to all the fantasy fans. I'll Rate this book 4/5 stars.

The Wandering Star writted by S.P. Mittson is a book that will keep you at edge. When I started the book, I never though it would be this fast paced. The book follows Eloise Hector- the princess of Murkwood who has a glitch, something that her mother has always suppressed. But when her mother suddenly dies, she is lost, not able to suppress her glitch and she shifts her friends to Shadowland - the home of drakness and nightmares. Then there is Kayden Parsons, the son of the mayor of Murkwood. He is an obnoxious jerk according to Eloise but he is the one that helps her in her journey. The book is written from the point of view of Eloise Hector but we do have a diiferent Pov at the end of the book which will make the reader exciting. The narration is beautiful and engaging, you will be drawn to trhe next page before you realise it. The storytelling done in between the pages is vivid and enthralling. I just fell in love with the character of Eloise, she is tough, smart and fights for her loved ones. It is just beautiful seeing her growth as a character. She just rules the book and I love her chemistry with Kayden. Ahhh!!!!! One have to read it to feel the agony and tension between them, to feel what i felt. I have to say that I never thought Kayden will play that big a part in this book, but always love good surprises! I went inside the book expecting not much and the extent to which I was shocked and excited. I loved the world building of the shadowland - the land is not beautiful and I could understand the darkness, death and hollowness surrounding it. I cant wait for the next book in this series - something to look forward to! Go into this book blindly, I say - you will not regret.

Stepping into 'The Wandering Star' unveils a mesmerizing blend of fantasy and mystery, where Eloise's journey unfolds amidst a tapestry of extraordinary elements. Despite an initial struggle to connect, the narrative gradually unfolds into a captivating adventure, brimming with beautifully flawed characters and unforeseen twists.

Eloise, a princess grappling with her uncontrollable powers, inadvertently transports her friends to Shadowland, a realm shrouded in hallucinatory mists and lurking shadows. Her quest to rescue them leads to unexpected alliances and daunting challenges, weaving a tale of resilience and friendship.

S.P. Mittson crafts a magical world teeming with dangers and revelations, keeping readers hooked with a fast-paced narrative and evocative prose. While character development could be more robust, the dynamic between Eloise and her enigmatic companion, Kayden, adds depth to the story's layers of teen drama, mythical battles, and unlikely alliances.

'The Wandering Star' is a promising start to a fantasy saga, offering an immersive escape into a realm where the line between good and evil blurs, and secrets unravel amidst the enchanting chaos.

"The Wandering Star" written by the author S. P. Mittson is the first book in the YA fantasy series, 'The Shifter's Trance,' and tells the story of Eloise Hector, a princess👸 of Murkwood, who possesses a unique glitch in her powers⚡. The book delves into themes of sorrow, love, and power, exploring the depths of Eloise's character and her relationship with the enigmatic Kayden.

One of the most impressive aspects of this novel is the vivid construction of the shadow realm. It adds a unique touch to the story. Each character, including Eloise and Kayden, is beautifully written and has their own distinct personality. The chemistry between Eloise and Kayden is palpable and adds an extra layer of excitement🤩 to the story.

The book takes you into the world of Murkwood, a realm bathed in perpetual twilight where magic intertwines with everyday life and few possess the ability to shift between realms with power of light and shadow. This fantasy adventure is filled with magic ,danger and a touch of romance.
Eloise is such a relatable character in some situations and makes her a likeable one with the qualities she embodies both vulnerability and resilience.Kayden who at first comes across as an arrogant bully can be seen transforming into a different light protecting Eloise.
I really loved the world building, steady and fast pace making it a page turner. There is a significant character arc and the plot is interesting along with the slow burn romance and protective cavemen side of Kayden.
Though the writing style is fast paced at times, the initial building of realms and shifters has become overwhelming . I feel the romance element is a bit underdeveloped.
If you like strong female lead , magic portals, shifters, Enemies to lovers romance then you're going to like this book.

I've always found joy in reading, and as part of my New Year's resolution, I aimed to revisit the classics. However, my plans took an unexpected turn when I chose "The Wandering Star" by S.P. Mittson as my inaugural read for 2024, given my responsibility for organizing the launch event for the author. While my intention was to ensure I finished the book before the event, once I delved into it, there was no turning back.

Being a devoted Harry Potter fan—I've read the entire series over seven times and watched the movies over a hundred times—I can genuinely say that this book provided a similar exhilarating experience. Although the concepts differ, the writing is undeniably captivating, drawing me into a trance-like state.

The characters, especially Eloise, the protagonist, as well as others like Kayden, Clara, Hormer, and many more, are meticulously crafted and portrayed, making them feel remarkably real. The book's fast-paced nature keeps you on the edge throughout. In sum, I'm genuinely delighted that "The Wandering Star" was my inaugural read of the year. However, now I'm apprehensive about picking up anything else because the bar has been set incredibly high.

Though I haven't completed the book, I am still giving it a 5-star rating. Actually this book is a very beautiful read for me although I don't read fantasy fiction a lot. But I am taking my sweet time to read this book because this one is a very sweet and realistic journey for me. I feel like through Eloise, I am living her life. No matter how many times I try to read it fast for the review, I just can't. So I just gave up and read each word with my heart and soul. So I want to apologise for reviewing this book without completing it, but I am 100% sure my thoughts about this book won't change even after I finish it.

I just love the character of Kayden. I don't know why but may be because I read dark romances and that is the prime reason but I have a very soft corner for the guys who have the bad boy attitude. Here he is the perfect example of the "I hate you but I still want you" guy. This is going to be enemies to lovers and that fact alone just stole my heart.

I haven't even completed the book still I am feeling the void I'm going to experience after I will finish it. So I just want the author to publish the second book as soon as she can so I can read that too. (oh take your time I'm just saying☺️). 100% recommendable, no argument here.

S.P. Mittson's debut novel, The Wandering Star is a captivating fantasy adventure that whisks readers away to a world brimming with magic and mystery. It's the first book of "The Shifter Trance Series" which takes readers on a journey through a meticulously crafted world filled with magic, intrigue, and adventure. The story centers around Eloise Hector, a princess with a hidden past and an unusual ability to slip between realms. When her friends are abducted to other realm. She embarks on a thrilling quest to rescue them, uncovering hidden truths about herself and her destiny along the way.

It follows the journey of the protagonist Eloise Hector, the princess of Murkwood, who harbors a secret. Unlike other shifters, who can seamlessly navigate between the real world and the fantastical Shadowland, Eloise possesses a "glitch" in her powers, making her control over them unstable.Throughout her life, her mother has meticulously suppressed this anomaly, keeping Eloise hidden from the public eye. However, tragedy strikes when Eloise's mother dies in an accident. Grief-stricken and overwhelmed, Eloise loses control over her powers, unintentionally shifting her closest friends into the treacherous realm of Shadowland.

Shadowland, in stark contrast to the vibrancy of Murkwood, is a desolate moonscape shrouded in mist, teeming with nightmarish creatures and lurking shadows. Desperate to save her friends, Eloise must confront the dangers of Shadowland. Enter Kayden Parsons, the self-proclaimed "King of Murkwood," who despite his arrogant and troublesome personality, becomes an unlikely ally in Eloise's quest. Together, they must traverse the treacherous landscape of Shadowland, overcome perilous challenges, and confront the source of the darkness that threatens to consume them both.

As they venture deeper into the unknown, Eloise and Kayden learn to depend on each other, forging an unexpected bond. They uncover hidden truths about themselves, their powers, and the history of their world. Through this journey of self-discovery and perilous adventure, Eloise learns to embrace her unique abilities and accept who she truly is. The prose is lyrical and immersive, drawing readers into a world where magic is both revered and feared.

The author paints a vivid picture of a world brimming with magic and wonder. The contrasting landscapes of Eloise's familiar realm and the perilous Shadowland keep the story fresh and exciting. The narrative is peppered with delightful banter between Eloise and her companions, adding a touch of humor and romance to the adventure. This dynamic keeps the story engaging and helps you connect with the characters on a deeper level. The budding romance between Eloise and Kayden adds fuel to the narrative and add another layer of interest.

The character development of this novel is well executed. Eloise is a relatable protagonist, strong-willed and resourceful despite her sheltered upbringing. The supporting characters, particularly her reluctant companion Kayden, add depth and intrigue to the story. The writing style is both elegant and immersive, creating an atmosphere that feels both enchanting and atmospheric and the pacing of the novel is deliberate and measured, allowing for the gradual unfolding of the story and the development of its characters.

In conclusion it offers a thrilling and immersive reading experience that will leave readers eagerly turning the pages until the very end. It is a spellbinding fantasy epic that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series. With its richly imagined setting, compelling characters, and gripping plot, it is sure to captivate fans of the genre from beginning to end. If you're looking for a captivating fantasy adventure with a strong female lead, intricate world-building, and a budding romance, then "The Wandering Star" is definitely worth checking out.

Unfortunately, I am forced to DNF this at 48%

I am an avid fan of all stories fantasy. I even love a great romance arc within the fantasy novel. The book has some of the best known tropes of a novel of its genre. Yet it fails.

I want to address each point, but first I want to mention the positives of the book. The world building, an essential part of fantasy, has been done amazingly. The different realms and their features work out well. The plot had the capacity to be great. The FMC had great space to grow. Her family's complex history could have made for an amazingly deep character growth.

But unfortunately, after a while within the book, all this fails. Of course, the story had the opportunity to become better, but midway through it was highly difficult to go on. And I'm gonna lay out why.

From the get go, I want to mention that this criticism is an honest review; I do not intend to hate on anyone who liked the book or the author herself, and do not wish to provide anything but constructive feedback that I hope can be used in the future.

So, the first thing that struck me was thr FMC's character. Like I said, it had the scope to grow, but it didn't. Somewhere she had a disconnect with the gritty reality around her, and her response became very emotionally detached. This became especially evident when her mother is murdered. Later, it seeps into her behaviour amidst all the tragedies that strike her. The only instance where I felt any emotional connect was when she remembered her experiences in the Shadowland as a child.

I am also aware of the tropes of alpha males and claiming women. In the world that this story built, I felt it did not work out either. The enemies-to-lovers trope was attempted, but the behaviour of the FMC and MMC did not make for a smooth transition. Somehow the MMC never showed the side of him that made him worth that transformation.

The ancillary characters also felt underdeveloped. I was especially rooting for the FMC's best friend. But she, along with her other friends, fell grossly short. The characters lacked a sufficient backstory, and the information provided about them felt superficial.

Now, I come to the biggest issue I felt: the narrative technique. Fantasies like these must convey a great deal of information to the reader, and thus the linguistic and narrative choices by the author must be fitting with that. Unfortunately it did not happen this way in the novel. In many instances the narration seemed casual, uncaring, and downright fake (which is probably not a conscious choice). Usage of Gen-Z terms clashed with the more serious language of the novel. The worldbuilding also had several clashes as well. For me, Shadowland was the only good part. The narrative also made it difficult to follow what was happening and to whom it was happening.

Something that personally bugged me was the multitude of copy errors and wrong usage of words. It kept disrupting my attention and also took away from the experience of reading. It also includes narrative disruptions and jumping of the timeline that took away from the flow of the writing.

I am usually someone who doesn't DNF a book easily and give it the opportunity. However, for this book, I could not go on. The indifference of the MCs and the jarring narrative style made it very difficult. There is a certain immaturity in the characters, and the odd descriptions of the people made it feel very novice, especially their physical features. There were unnecessary long descriptions of mundane things that weren't vital to the plot. It lacked expository features. And the narrative was slow, which can be very impedimenting in a fantasy like this.

If the book worked for you, that's great! We need more Indian authors working in the genre of fantasy. However for me, it was a no-go.

As the first book in the fantasy series of 'The Shifter's Trance,' 'The Wandering Star' tells the captivating story of Eloise Hector, the princess of Murkwood who has to deal with the usual teenage dilemmas of sorrow, love, and jealousy while also uncovering her inherent magical powers, to finally keep a balance between the real and the parallel world. It is aptly named because as per the definition of Wandering Stars, they are entities that are not gravitationally tied to any one galaxy in a cluster but can be found in clusters of hundreds or thousands of galaxies.

The story starts with our protagonist Eloise Hector, whose life changes dramatically when she discovers her latent magical abilities, and loses her mother in a car accident, all within a spell of a very short period. Mittson masterfully develops Eloise's character, infusing her with resilience, determination, and a profound sense of curiosity that propels her forward through the challenges she faces in emotional and mental sorrow. As Eloise embarks on her quest to find out the secret behind her mother’s death, readers are drawn into a world brimming with mystical creatures, ancient prophecies, and hidden dangers.

One of the novel's greatest strengths lies in its richly detailed world-building. Mittson expertly crafts a universe where magic is both revered and feared, where celestial beings watch over mortal affairs, and where every corner holds secrets waiting to be uncovered. From the serene residential streets of Murkwood to the ethereal realms beyond, each setting is brought to life with immersive descriptions and vibrant imagery, inviting readers to lose themselves in its splendor.

The plot unfolds steadily, blending moments of heart-pounding action with quieter, introspective scenes that delve into the character's innermost thoughts and motivations. Mittson keeps readers guessing with unexpected twists and turns, ensuring that the story remains engaging from beginning to end. Moreover, underlying themes of friendship, courage, and the power of belief add depth and resonance to the narrative, leaving a lasting impression on readers long after turning the final page.

Additionally, certain plot developments may feel predictable to seasoned fantasy enthusiasts. For me, the best part was the ending, where Mittson ended the story from the perspective of Kayden aka the devil of Murkwood, who is also the handsome love interest of Eloise. The slow building of the chemistry between these two added to my sheer enjoyment, as I am a hopeless romantic who loves these trysts within a story plot.

"The Wandering Star" by S.P. Mittson takes readers on an enchanting journey through a vividly imagined world where magic intertwines with destiny. Set against the backdrop of a celestial tapestry, this fantasy novel weaves together intricate plot threads and captivating characters, offering a spellbinding experience from start to finish.

This literary endeavor, adorned with an ostentatious plot, fails to transcend its clichéd narrative and falls prey to an overwrought deployment of tropes.

Eloise Hector, touted as the princess with a "mysterious glitch," embodies a trite archetype, lacking the nuance required for genuine character development. The author's attempt at complexity with the accidental manifestation of powers after her mother's demise feels contrived, adding little substance to the overall narrative.

The transition to Shadowland, a realm supposedly shrouded in mystique, is marred by an unimaginative portrayal of hallucinations and shadowy landscapes. The promised tension within this moonless realm comes across as more of a literary quagmire than an immersive experience, failing to evoke the intended sense of foreboding.

The introduction of Kayden Parsons as the obnoxious jerk, self-proclaimed King of Murkwood, adds little originality to the narrative. His sudden transformation into Eloise's reluctant ally feels forced, lacking the subtlety required for character dynamics. The promised sparks and flirty banter between Eloise and Kayden read more like an obligatory inclusion rather than a genuine progression in their relationship.

The Forsaken, portrayed as the antagonistic force, lack the depth and motivation needed to elevate them beyond mere placeholders for conflict. The narrative, despite its claims of a "thrilling and mystic adventure," falls into predictable patterns, leaving readers yearning for a more inventive and gripping storyline.

The prose, while attempting an air of sophistication, occasionally stumbles into convoluted expressions, impeding the flow of the narrative. The author's excessive reliance on grandiloquent language often feels like an unnecessary embellishment rather than a tool for enriching the storytelling.

The book is mentioned as a "fantasy" book in the cover but it never justified the meaning of fantasy. Fantasy books really need some artworks, illustrations or something eye catching to make the story going & adding a visual appealing dimension to the book. Those can act as a reading cleanser for readers to get involved with the storyline more. But this book didn't have any sort of illustrations which dragged it back a bit. If the content of the book is so strong like "Kevin Missal" then only you can skip the illustrations because he himself engrossed you within the book by his lucid storyline.

In conclusion, it falters in its pursuit of originality and fails to deliver on the promised mystique. The characters lack depth, the plot leans heavily on tired tropes, and the prose, despite its attempts at complexity, struggles to engage the reader. A missed opportunity to craft a truly enchanting and immersive fantasy experience.

The Wandering Stars" by S.P. Mittson is a fantasy book and the first installment in the Shifter Trance series. Before delving into the depth of the book, I'll share my initial impressions and progression with this gripping story.

From the outset, I found the narrative relatable, touching on themes of life around family. The introduction of characters like Eloise Hector's mom evoked a personal connection, and at times, I felt like my own mother was expressing herself within the pages.

The introduction of Eloise Hector is brilliantly written, showcasing the author's skill with words. Kayden Parsons, a character well-dressed with a fit physique at a young age, adds depth to the story. Clara , Eloise's best friend, is a captivating character with a narrative that I thoroughly enjoyed. Noni, a character both cute and mysterious, adds an interesting dynamic to the storyline and many more ...like Hannah Robin...so on.

As I delved deeper into the book, the story try to transformed into a fantasy realm filled with imagination, powers, parallel worlds, darkness, suspense, mystery, horror, fear, energy, and cosmic elements but The writing style is so simple and lucid . However, I couldn't help but feel that the story, with its sense of romance and creative attempts, leaned more towards a normal fiction narrative than a true fantasy novel.

The three-fourths of the book impressed me with its marvelous character development and well-executed plot points. However, one drawback for me was the book's classification as a fantasy novel. Typically, fantasy books establish correlations between worlds, similar to examples like "Stranger Things". , with smooth transformation but Unfortunately, this book lacked the necessary connectivity. The transition of Eloise losing her mother and her subsequent energy/power struggles in the shadowland lacked clarity, leaving a gap in the narrative.

Despite this, the book excelled in characterization, storytelling, and execution. While it may not consistently adhere to typical fantasy tropes, it remains an enjoyable and gripping read. I eagerly anticipate the subsequent parts of the series, hoping the author incorporates more imaginative elements into the fantasy world.

Overall just wanna say , I thoroughly enjoyed "The Wandering Stars." It's undeniably gripping, although it may not reach the pinnacle of a traditional fantasy novel. Regardless, it's a compelling read that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Name : The Wandering Star
Author : S.P.Mittson
Genre : YA Fantasy with romance

My 💭:
[04/03/24 7.00PM]

Woohoo I did non-stop reading of a book after so long! It was a heady 48 hours! 🤭

I can't remember when was the last time I read a YA fantasy with romance. Probably during my college years? I guess, the reader's age does matter when they are reading a book. I know for a fact that I would have enjoyed this book 10x more if I had read it during my teenage years. But, being the glitchy person that I am, I still have a bit of a teenage brain (my bestie will agree to this vehemently 😆) and hence, I enjoyed this book very much.

The premise of the book somewhat reminded me of Stranger Things at the beginning, because of all the otherworldly dimensions concept and the protagonist, Eloise, disappearing to the other dimension spontaneously. But as the plot went on, I found the storyline much more complex than Stranger Things. There were a LOT of fantasy things that get revealed to us very early on in the story, I got a bit overwhelmed at that. But once I had a cup of chai in me, I was good to go :)

If I am being honest, the plot that made me obsessively read this book was *taduuuum* Kayden. Obviously. My God, his chemistry with Eloise was OFF THE CHARTS!! Theirs is an enemies to lovers love story, so obviously I liked it. And I totally related with what Eloise said about hating and being attracted to the same person, gosh, it's an unforgettable feeling. So yeah, I will go ahead and say that Kayden was the reason I liked this book 🙈.

There are a lot of characters and plot twists in this story. Some parts got a bit blurred to me as I was flying through the lines wanting to get more Kayden content. So it's better to read the book slowly. The one character I didn't like particularly was Homer. God! He is the definition of a toxic guy. Why is Eloise even friends with him? Should we be friends with someone if we have just ONE good memory with them and for the rest of their life, they have been basically shitty? It seemed like Homer was written to be hated upon. Thank God, Eloise has good friends like Nathan and Clara.

I am eagerly waiting for the next books in this series to see more of Kayden 😇.

P.S. Don't read the Kayden chapters in front of your mum, she'll think you are a lunatic. Speaking from experience. 🙈

I am not a huge admirer of Enemies to Lovers trope because of past disappointments but when I read this book, I was totally hooked to the story.

Kayden Parsons is a new favourite now. Although he has many flaws, he also has everything that makes him a perfect fictional boyfriend.

The story is set in a fictional village of Murkwood where Eloise Hector is a princess but she doesn't like to be called one. She has a weird glitch that makes her "shift" to a different world without her own control. That other world is the "Shadowland" where demons and monsters thrive.

Unfortunately, one day, she shifts her friends to the shadowland along with herself but she fails to shift them back to the normal world. Desperate and determined to bring her friends back, she has to take help from Kayden who is her nemesis. From there, the story gets even more interesting and spicy.

I absolutely love jealous "fictional" men and Kayden just made me swoon over him repeatedly throughout the book. I loved how he was so protective and possessive about Eloise and how he loved to take care of her despite everything that happened. Their chemistry and banter is worth reading and I couldn't hold myself from flipping page after page to know what happens next.

I loved the beautiful portrayal of the friendship between Eloise and Clara. And I also loved the deliberate chaos created between Eloise, Kayden and Homer. Sometimes tough answers need tough situations and you have to choose one thing that's best for you. Eloise finds herself in a dilemma where she has to choose between the man she loves and the man who loves her.

This is easily a 5 star read for me because it was really smooth to get a grip of the story even when it was a fantasy book. All the characters were developed perfectly and the plot building is amazing without any complications.

The writing style is such that it creates a sense of connection within readers and those who are fans of this particular Enemies to Lovers trope, they must read this book. The narrative is so gripping and fresh. I highly recommend this to Romantasy lovers.

I am talking about the book that's already been the talk of the booksta-town for some time now... Yes, that's "The Wandering Star".

In "The Wandering Star (The Shifter's Trance Series #1)" by S.P. Mittson, we dive into a world where glitches aren't just technical errors but integral parts of the plot. Eloise Hector, the princess of Murkwood (which she hates being called btw), grapples with powers she can't control after a tragic accident. Kayden Parsons, who's as charming as he is obnoxious, offers help despite being labeled Eloise's nemesis. Together, they embark on a journey through Shadowland, a realm filled with mist and lurking shadows, to rescue Eloise's friends from the clutches of darkness. (Psst… Yes, there’s sort of a love triangle, read to find out!)

From the very beginning, the mysterious plot sets the stage for an adventure that's as captivating as it is unpredictable. You'll find yourself immersed in a world where every twist and turn keeps you on your toes, wondering what surprise awaits on the next page.

The author, herself, said that she was a lot inspired by the stories that her grandparents told her and we see instances where there might be some careful and thoughtful references to Hindu mythology!

While I eagerly flipped through the pages, there was a lingering hunger for deeper exploration into the story and its characters. I loved Kayden’s POV at the end of the book.

But, it’s not the end because we are awaiting two more volumes!

"The Wandering Star" is a thrilling debut that takes you on a mystical adventure filled with twists, turns, and glitches. Its captivating narrative and dynamic characters keep you hooked until the very end. So, grab your book and join Eloise and Kayden on their journey through Shadowland—you won't regret it.

"The Wandering Star" by S.P. Mittson is a mesmerizing journey into a realm where magic and destiny converge in a tapestry of wonder and intrigue. From the depths of Murkwood to the ethereal realms of the Shadowland, Mittson crafts a narrative that enchants readers from the very first page.

At its heart, the story is a testament to the power of self-discovery and the resilience of the human spirit. Through the eyes of Eloise Hector, a princess burdened with the weight of her lineage and the secrets of her abilities, readers are drawn into a world where the lines between light and darkness blur, and where courage is forged in the crucible of adversity.

Mittson's prose is as evocative as it is enchanting, weaving a rich tapestry of imagery and emotion that transports readers to realms both wondrous and perilous. The world-building is nothing short of extraordinary, with each page revealing new depths to explore and mysteries to unravel.

Central to the narrative is the dynamic between Eloise and Kayden, whose complex relationship serves as both a source of tension and a beacon of hope in a world fraught with danger. Their journey from adversaries to allies is a testament to the transformative power of love and redemption, and Mittson navigates their emotional arc with a deft hand, ensuring that every moment feels earned and every revelation carries weight.

But perhaps most impressive of all is Mittson's ability to imbue the story with a sense of wonder and possibility that lingers long after the final page is turned. "The Wandering Star" is not simply a novel; it is an invitation to explore the boundless realms of imagination, where dreams take flight and anything is possible.

In summary, "The Wandering Star" is a triumph of fantasy storytelling that will captivate readers of all ages. With its richly drawn characters, evocative prose, and spellbinding narrative, it is a testament to the enduring power of myth and magic in a world hungry for wonder. Do not miss the opportunity to embark on this extraordinary adventure.

THE WANDERING STAR by S P Mittson

'Knowing your strength, when you don't know how to deal with your weakness gives some self assurance.'

I did not go into this book with many expectations. And the first few pages did precious little to draw me in. But once I overcame my initial apathy, the story, like an enchantment, unfurled before my eyes.

The plot picks up pace from Chapter 2. Although, I'm itching to explain why, I'd rather hold my tongue. No spoilers. All I will say is that Eloise Hector is a badass warrior princess not unlike Aerin and Talea from other famous fantasy series. But her life, comprising primarily of lessons to become a warrior and a princess leaves her lonely and longing for the ordinary pleasures of a normal life. Little did she know, that life had more extraordinary things in store for her. As is the arc of the hero, through tragedy, she rises as burnished gold, stronger and more in control of her extraordinary abilities.

The romance in the book is warm, yet edgy. It would be a disservice to the efforts of the author to skip it in my review. In the beginning of the book, Eloise is seen pining for a love life. Something that her austere prohibitive existence and an authoritarian mother had kept from her. So the attraction that develops between Eloise and Kayde adds dimensions to our heroine.

There is no way to ignore it, the alternate dimension here is reminiscent of the Upside Down from Stranger Things. But it is a homage than an absolute rip off. What I loved about this book is how the fantasy element trickles into the reality that S P Mittson has created. The end result is a delightfully believeable fantasy, which, though predictable, will certainly entertain the reader till the very end.

Lastly, I must point out that the book would probably have done well with another round at the hands of a seasoned editor. Hopefully, the plot holes will be dealt with in the next books of the series. Regardless, it is definitely a book worth reading. It will take you on a beautiful adventure.

I would like to end with just how much I love the cover of this novel. It captures the alternate dimension

A tale of love, adventure, magic & mystery, to keep you hooked ✨

✨INSIGHT: The book revolves around Eloise Hector, the princess of the royal family of a fictional town, Murkwood, who possesses supernatural powers, & is able to transport into a parallel realm of dark magic, Shadowland. As tragedy befalls 17-year-old Eloise, she must enlist the help of her arch-enemy, Kayden Parsons, to try & save everyone she holds dear. As the lines between truth & lies, fantasy & reality, Shadowland & our mortal realm start blurring, Eloise & Kayden forge an unlikely bond, that could be the key to battling the sinister forces that threaten to take over our Universe.

✨REVIEW: Narrated from Eloise's POV, the story traces her life, friendships, family & blossoming love-hate relationship with Kayden, while narrating a fantastical tale of magic & mayhem, that borrows some elements from Indian mythology as well. Filled with demons, monsters, fiends & an evil Queen, packed with action & adventure, while being peppered profusely with some highly charged romantic moments, the book is definitely an enjoyable read.

✨STRENGTH: 1. The narration & writing style is engaging, polished yet lucid enough for readers to immerse themselves into the story.
2. Ample twists and turns, cliffhangers keep you glued.
3. Kayden & Eloise's chemistry & bonding.
4. The world-building was done well.

✨WEAKNESS: 1. Though I did enjoy Kayden & Eloise's sizzling chemistry, I felt descriptions, such as of Kayden as an alpha male bad boy & Eloise as the feisty heroine, were highly influenced by common popular romance fiction tropes. Because the book is a good read overall, I was expecting a bit more of a refreshed take on the romance.
2. The pace dragged quite a few times; there were instances when it felt certain portions could be redacted to make the story even more compact.
3. Eloise's character did not seem to have much growth by the end, & needed work.

✨TARGET READERS : Suitable for adult readers, keenly interested in romantic fantasy books.

✨GENRE: Fantasy

✨RATING: 3.9/5
