According to the Alternative Energy Development Plan: AEDP 2015 prepared by the Ministry of Energy has set the framework and direction of the country’s renewable energy development to reduce energy imports from overseas in terms of oil and other types of energy. By the year 2036, the proportion of renewable energy will be increased to 30% of the country’s total energy consumption. When considering the alternative energy plan in the transport sector to reduce oil imports by producing ethanol and mixing it with gasoline to produce gasohol E10, E 20 and E 85, it was found that the government sector set a target to produce ethanol to replace the country's overall crude oil imports of approximately 11.3 million liters per day. In addition, the renewable energy plan for electricity generation requires 5,570 megawatts of biomass energy to replace fossil fuels currently imported for electricity generation.
