❝Sabaudia, this rational-style city, does not speak to reason but to the imagination… it reminds me of Africa, for me the most beautiful thing in the world❞

Alberto Moravia

❝I chose Sabaudia as a spiritual place for my forced rest and my anxieties about future jobs, furious dreams that keep me anchored to the world. Here we are in front of the structure, the shape, the profile of a city immersed in a kind of lagoon light, even though there is a wonderful Mediterranean scrub around it.
How much we intellectuals laughed at the architecture of the regime, at cities like Sabaudia… Yet now we find this city absolutely unexpected…❞

Pier Paolo Pasolini

It’s true, we are a jeweler. The oldest in Sabaudia.
But we have always been very attached to our city, always attentive to our territory and the context in which we are inserted. For this we wanted to dedicate a space on our site to the Pontine city and its vast territory, so full of charm. Just a small starting point for those who, visiting Sabaudia, feel the need to discover something more than its often hidden beauties.

In many territories they know that Sabaudia is one of the youngest cities in Italy, but few know that theirs is actually very ancient. The Grotta Guattàri is very famous, in front of the sea and at the foot of Monte del Circeo, where an extraordinary skull dating back to about 51,000 years ago was found.

The presence of the ancient Romans is also important, as evidenced in particular by the grandiose villa overlooking Lake Paola built by the Emperor Domitian. Then there is the port-canal that connects Lake Paola to the sea, designed by Nerone just behind the fascinating and sixteenth-century Torre Paola. Not far away are the sources of Lucullus and the beautiful little church of Santa Maria della Sorresca, built in the 6th century AD. on the remains of a Roman villa from the 1st century AD

This is the cultural and historical background of a territory rich in culture. It will then be thanks to the four exponent architects of the Movement Italian for Rational Architecture, Gino Cancellotti, Eugenio Montuori, Luigi Piccinato and Alfredo Scalpelli, that the city of Sabaudia will take shape in the early 1930s, assuming its current shape and making Sabaudia one of the most emblematic cities of Rationalist Architecture.

The fulcrum of this rational conception around which the entire city was built is Piazza del Popolo, today Piazza del Comune, in the center of which the De Vitis Jewelery will also settle a few years later.

The Civic Tower of the town hall stands out against the sky, which symbolically contrasts, even in height, with the nearby Bell Tower of the Church of SS. Annunziata with the large mosaic on the facade by Ferruccio Ferrazzi and inside the Royal Chapel donated by Queen Elena.

Palazzo Mazzoni | former post office building

Certainly one of the most fascinating and famous buildings, distinguished by the iconic blue colored tiles of the Savoy family, is undoubtedly Palazzo Mazzoni, once the post office and today the Municipal Library.

Nature dominates, luxuriant and powerful, the frame of what is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful landscapes in Italy. An environment so unique and unusual that it appears almost exotic to the eyes of the visitor: ❝it looks like Africa❞, wrote Moravia, not by chance.

In this sense, a central role belongs to the Circeo National Park: its immense forest; the wonderful dunes that face the sea for many kilometers; coastal lakes and wetlands – among the most important in the world for the number of species hosted.

Monte Circeo rises majestically over the whole landscape with its characteristic profile which according to tradition takes on the appearance of the sorceress Circe described in Homer’s Odyssey. And then the Islands, real pearls set in the heart of the Mediterranean.
