In 2013, in São Paulo, musicians Davi Freitas and Felipe Gomide got together with the aim of creating a fiddle forró group that had influences beyond the traditional northeastern ones. With the entry of percussionists Bruno Duarte and Marcus Simon, Xaxado Novo starts a cultural and musical research with trips to Exu, Crato, Juazeiro do Norte and Petrolina.
With a repertoire for the most part authorial, with reinterpretations of songs by renowned artists such as Luiz Gonzaga, Dominguinhos and Sivuca, the group Xaxado Novo proposes a tour of the Brazilian popular imagination, with Caribbean and Oriental musical influences.
In 2016, Xaxado Novo releases its first album “Sertão Cigano”, with original songs and reinterpretations of compositions by João do Vale, Trio Nordestino and Antônio Barros. The cover was produced by the famous Pernambuco woodcut artist J. Borges. In 2018, the band consolidates its definitive formation with the entry of sousaphonist Eliezer Tristão, the same year in which it releases the second album “Xaxado Novo Ao Vivo”, recorded at the Ibirapuera Auditorium, with the participation of Ricardo Herz, Gabriel Levy and Orkestra Bandida.
Among the awards won by the group are Best Music, Best Zabumbeiro and 3rd Place at the Festival Nacional Forró de Itaúnas (2015); Revelation Musician (Davi Freitas) and 2nd place at the Lua Cheia Festival (2018).
In 2019, the group releases the EP Vagamundo, with 4 copyrighted songs and a clip of the song "Sentinelas". In 2020, he released the single "Fronteiras Invisíveis", and the album "Xaxado Novo no Estúdio Showlivre (Ao Vivo)". In 2021, violinist and fiddler Wanessa Dourado joins the band taking on the fiddle and the group releases their new single "Ingrediente".
