The Italian goalkeeper became a popular figure at Stamford Bridge after he was signed from Serie B club Castel di Sangro Calcio by Gianluca Vialli in 1999.

He secured a regular place in Chelsea's starting line-up the following season and maintained his position as the club's No 1 goalkeeper until the arrival Petr Cech in 2004.

Despite being linked with a number of other clubs, Cudicini remained at Stamford Bridge as back-up to Cech and won the Premier League twice, in addition to two FA Cup and two League Cups.

Cudicini ended his 10-year association with the club in 2009 when he moved on a free transfer to London rivals Tottenham.

However, he failed to secure a first team place at White Hart Lane and subsequently moved on to LA Galaxy where he retired from professional football in 2013.

The former Italy U21, who was once approached by the FA to represent England, also enjoyed a spell as part of the Republic of Ireland's Under 21s coaching staff in 2015.

Although Conte speaks English well, Cudicini may have been brought back to Stamford Bridge in order to help his compatriot acclimatise to the club.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also brought in goalkeeping coach Gianluca Spinelli who worked with Conte for the Italian national side.

The Blues embark on a pre-season tour of Austria this week where they are due to face Rapid Wien on July 16 and Wolfsberger on July 20.

Conte's side then travel to the US to face Liverpool, Real Madrid and AC Milan in three more friendlies before completing their pre-season preparations against CSKA in Moscow on August 7.
