Wanted to split tv audio out to a soundbar. I have flexible conduit running from the AV receiver to the back of the tv, about 15’. Original HDMI cable was older and fat. So I bought this optical cable and new HDMI cable. Both are very small diameter compared to the old HDMI, this optical was surprising small. Both easily fit in the conduit. Now have optical soundbar and improved picture quality.

Optical cables are pretty much all the same. It is not correct to think that they are like copper/electrical cables where various design considerations influence the amount of signal degradation or noise pickup over the length. With many optical cables you see for sale, the seller or manufacturer touts their use of gold plating on a little piece of metal found very close to the tip of the optical cable. Why? Why is that little piece of metal even there? What’s it for? It has nothing to do with transmission of information.

This optical cable is probably more prone to damage than most. That’s the only difference.

At the end, where the little blocky piece snaps into the receptacle on the back of your whatever, there are two little bumps on opposing sides, which serve to lock the cable in so it won’t fall out. These two little bumps are too pronounced. I had a devil of a time removing the cable end from the receptacles on the back of my AVR. I suggest sanding them both down just a hair, using some extra fine emery. Or, if you are a skilled woodcarver, you can do what I did and very carefully take a very thin slice from both of the bumps.

Play it smart and buy this cable. Waste your money on something else like a 4K BD.
