  1. John Currin à la Parmigianino

    image

John Currin, Park City Grill, 2000, oil on canvas.  Walker Art Center, Minneapolis

Cave to Canvas is featuring one of my favorite artists, an individual whose paintings exaggerate, accentuate, elongate, or distort the human body, specifically those of women.  At times, John Currin’s images remind me of strangely eroticised Mannerist paintings (indeed, some Mannerist paintings were meant to be erotic), and at other times, his figures seem to have leaped out of a painting by Cranach or even Picasso.  Be sure to check out Cave to Canvas all day for more of his paintings (some of which are NSFW).
