New GPU frequency world record is just 70 MHz short from breaking 4 GHz
Overclocker Cens has been able to beat the GPUPI world record once again.

Just last month, Cens was able to surpass 3.825 GHz in the same benchmark, which secured him the first place in the HWBOT’s GPUPI 3.3 32B ranking. As we mentioned before, there is no so-to-speak a GPU frequency ranking for graphics cards in HWBOT competition. Instead, a software called GPUPI is used which calculates the mathematical constant Pi in parallel using Bailey–Borwein–Plouffe formula using either OpenCL or CUDA optimizations.
The current ranking (at least the first 20 spots) are exclusively occupied by the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card, which is the fastest NVIDIA gaming GPU currently on the market. Cens has been able to claim the first place with an updated score of 46 seconds and 383 ms. The graphics card reportedly reached a maximum frequency of 3930 MHz, the highest GPU frequency thus far recorded.

One should remind our readers that GPUPI is not a graphics intense benchmark. The observed peak frequency with this test method falls short of the actual utilization of 3D technology, like games or synthetic benchmarks. Nevertheless, this is an important achievement and the GPU community has never been closer to the 4.0 GHz barrier with graphics cards.

The overclocker used Colorful iGame RTX 4090 LAB edition, a highly binned version of the iGame Vulcan. Colorful’s new GPU series is slowly emerging as a competitor to GALAX HOF and spiritual successor to EVGA Kingpin series.
