Phoenix

With a lauded career that has net him three previous Oscar nominations, Phoenix took home the coveted best actor trophy in 2020 for his humanizing, tormented take on a Batman villain in “Joker.” Along the way, the reclusive, occasionally tempestuous actor used that spotlight to speak out about the causes important to him, including animal rights and racial equity. He signed on to executive produce a documentary about the lives of farm animals, “Gunda,” which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. And just before the industry shut down for the pandemic, Phoenix completed Mike Mills’ upcoming road-trip movie “C’mon C’mon.” Next up he is partnering swith Ridley Scott for 20th Century Studios’ “Kitbag,” in which he’ll play Napoleon in a historical epic that details the French general’s strategic genius.
