Kids as young as 3 years old can start learning how to ski with the instruction of our Kids’ Camp ski pros in private or group lessons. The “Corralito” Magic Carpet area is an ideal safe and fun learning environment the little ones need for their first ski experience. We recommend starting with short one hour sessions as they get tired faster and this stage is all about keeping it “fun”.
Teens will find learning on our beginner terrain is the perfect setting for a strong start and getting comfortable with sliding on snow. With our ski pros, they will enjoy learning to ski in a fun and social setting. Exploring the mountain while making new friends they can share hotel activities like ping pong and foosball, slackline, the climbing wall and teen parties.
Learning to ski as an adult can be a challenge. With the expert guidance of our ski pros, adults can get a solid foundation of skills to succeed on the mountain. Learning takes time which is why we usually recommend at least 3 days of lessons for the basic skills to be mastered.
The first times on skis can be tiring at first so expect to take some breaks while you practice. The Ski Box located by the Corralito beginner area has outdoor seating for drinks and food as well as restrooms. Sit back and relax with a snack while you watch other skiers practice.
On your first day, you can rent ski equipment from the Portillo rental shop. Skis, boots and poles for skiers and Snowboard and boots for snowboarders. After getting your equipment you can walk right out to the snow where an instructor will meet you for lessons and explain how it all works and learning to use it. Be sure to wear ski attire, eye and sun protection!
The first days of skiing can be quite exhausting. Often, new muscles are being used in different ways so expect your legs to be a bit sore and tired. We recommend an evening yoga class to stretch it all out, a sunset soak in the Portillo hot tub, and/or a massage at the spa to relax and renew so you can feel rejuvenated and enjoy the following day.
For those just starting their journey on skis, Portillo’s terrain and ski pros set the best start for success, making things easier. A safe and stress-free environment with the proper instruction and support will help you fall in love with the sport of skiing and quickly progress to other slopes on the mountain.

Skiers and snowboarders who are just starting, feel comfortable on the green level slopes. These are: Corralito, La Princesa and El Puma.
They are learning how to stop, control speed, and make basic turns. Getting used to sliding and starting to enjoy speed are some of the new skills at this level.
Corralito is the easiest green level on the mountain, it is a beginner area with a magic carpet lift. It is the perfect place for beginners looking for a wide and gentle slope, close to the hotel.
The Portillo ski & snowboard school offers Ski lessons for adults & kids to learn to ski, whilst having fun and enjoying the beauty of the mountains. With flexibility to suit everyone’s needs, group ski lessons are available on a daily basis with sessions during the morning and afternoon. Guests can choose to join for a day, several or a full week of ski lessons for adults or ski lessons for kids.
Take a private ski or snowboard lesson individually or with friends or family. Skiers with physical or learning disabilities can fall in love with the sport of skiing with the help of our adaptive ski coaches. Adaptive skiing is common at Ski Portillo, with ski instructors trained to teach skiers with a variety of disabilities. Adaptive skiers will also enjoy the warm, comfortable hotel facilities with it’s friendly intimate atmosphere, gourmet dining and daily activities and entertainment schedule.
