Frecuencia 106.9 On the Air

Mexico City’s newest radio station broadcast for the first time yesterday. XHSCCA-FM 106.9, which will be known as Frecuencia 106.9, is airing music and station IDs; it does not expect to begin its first phase of programming for another two months. (When contacted, a station representative promised to send more information shortly.)

XHSCCA-FM is owned by Comunicadores Comunitarios del Arte y la Cultura, A.C. In March, technical details were published for the transmitter in Xochimilco.

Guerrero Gets Its Concession Groove On

Radio y Televisión de Guerrero is back on sound footing. That’s after the IFT apparently, in a still unpublished Pleno session, awarded a package of concessions to the state network that suffered from a total expiration of every single concession it had.

Governor Evelyn Salgado says that six radio and two TV concessions were awarded. The call signs from the 2023 PABF are:

  • XECPCG-AM 820C Coyuca de Catalán
  • XECPCH-AM 870C Chilpancingo de los Bravo
  • XECPOG-AM 1100C Ometepec
  • XECPTG-AM 1310C Taxco
  • XHCPES-FM 97.7C1 Acapulco
  • XHCPEX-FM 92.1B Zihuatanejo
  • XHCPFU-TDT 33 Acapulco
  • XHCPFW-TDT 35 Chilpancingo de los Bravo

Still to be adjudicated in Guerrero are a bunch of public allotments from the PABF in 2023. It’s unclear how many of these will go to RTG. Notably, the Chilpancingo FM — which, unlike the others, was in the advance window with the continuity allotments, a highly unusual thing to do! — is the subject of competing bids by RTG, the Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero, and the state legislature. The fact that a Chilpancingo FM is not mentioned here might be a good sign for the competing applicants!

These additional Guerrero allotments are:

  • XHCPET-FM 103.1A Arcelia
  • XHCPEU-FM 93.5AA Ciudad Altamirano
  • XHCPCD-FM 101.9A Chilpancingo de los Bravo
  • XHCPCF-FM 92.3A Tlapa de Comonfort
  • XHCPEW-FM 89.7A Xochistlahuaca
  • XHCPEY-FM 88.3A Zumpango del Río
  • XHCPFV-TDT 8 Coyuca de Catalán
  • XHCPFX-TDT 18 San Luis Acatlán
  • XHCPFY-TDT 7 Taxco de Alarcón
  • XHCPFZ-TDT 20 Zihuatanejo

Old Studios, New Art

X Espacio, a Mexico City-based art gallery, now has a branch in Ciudad Juárez. And it’s called X Espacio YC because — no joke — it’s in the old studios once used by XEYC-AM.

Instead of Ysela Caballero’s radio station (now Radio Fórmula for the city), now the house in the city center features an art gallery and cultural center.

Ciudad TV Workers Claim Firing Without Cause

Ciudad TV 21.2, the television channel run by the Mexico City legislature, is facing calls for its leader to step down.

The group of workers believes Diego Saturno García fired them without cause as retribution for their protests on the floor of the congress on May 11 seeking compensation for two missed pay periods. The workers want Saturno García to come to the bargaining table to discuss the particulars of their contracts, which were quarterly and had become monthly. Saturno is claimed to have said that Morena deputy Martha Ávila approved of the dismissals to reduce the operation’s headcount.

Imagen TV Promotes Forthcoming News for Guadalajara

For just the second time, Imagen Televisión will have local programming. Three daily newscasts are forthcoming for the Guadalajara area. Ricardo Camarena, Fabiola Anaya, and Ray Suárez will anchor.

This is a long time coming. Imagen TV Puebla has had local news, subcontracted out, for years.

Morelos Vencida Targeted By Vandals

Since January 1, four break-ins have taken place at Irradia 103.7 FM in Cuernavaca, the expired XHZPC-FM, the most recent on Sunday.

The motive is attributed to the station’s reporting on state government matters, having uncovered corruption among notaries, political persecution, and issues within the state transportation secretariat. A criminal complaint has been filed with the state Fiscalía General.

Management of the station is run by Teodoro Rentería Villa — as in XHRV-FM in Tamaulipas and the same family as XHAZE-FM in Nogales.

The Name’s KC, But Everyone Calls Me Chaquiste

There’s a lead on who exactly is behind XHSCKC-FM 93.1 in Tuxtepec, Oaxaca.

One news outlet, Columna Informativa, is claiming this is an existing pirate, Stereo Chaquiste 89.3. The director is Miguel Ángel Vázquez Ortiz, the husband of state welfare secretary Laura Estrada Mauro, according to prior material from El Piñero.

Cerritos, Again Without Radio

The pirate radio station that was serving Cerritos, San Luis Potosí, has been taken off the air because they didn’t have the concession to let it run. Cerritos Digital had been broadcasting on 89.9 MHz for nearly three years. The station continues as an online outlet.

There does seem to be interest on behalf of the announcer, Chuy Espinosa, in getting a properly authorized station. An application was filed by El Cerrito Radio in 2020, but no station has materialized.

One new item on San Luis Potosí radio, unrelated: the Radio Metro Misión Potosina FM station to serve the capital city will be XHCSAI-FM 98.1.

Adventist Radio Comes to Zacatecas

It’s a big hope for Río Grande, Zacatecas, as Mi Gran Esperanza starts as a new pirate on 91.9 MHz. If what you’ve been waiting for in this town was an Adventist radio station, Tuesday was your lucky day. 20 hours a day of programming is planned.

Río Grande is in line for a new noncommercial station, but not on 91.9. Televisión Rural Río Grande will build XHSCIG-FM 106.7:

This story has been corrected to correct a typo as to the frequency in Ometepec.
