Very good taste and excellent service. The Japanese and Korean fusion is quite inspiring and refreshing. Will recommend to friends.

Left here with my belly full and heart happy. Booked this place as a late "surprise" valentines celebration for the bf and it truly DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
Located in a small plaza, they have valet parking but my cheap ass found street parking right outside the gates. The storefront has frosted glass so pretty private and very unassuming. Theres probably around 10 small tables inside. Great ambiance----that is until the large party arrived.
What did we order? Well to be fair, everything sounded delicious.
-Seasonal crudo $36 a beautiful dish and very refreshing. Must get. It was our favorite.
-The maitake mushroom $24 was another beautiful dish--slightly tarte and flavored to perfection. Really stood out to me.
-KFC aka korean fried hamachi $24 was a very cute dish. Looked like a fried chicken. Did not have a ton of meat but the morsels we had were very tender.
-bara uni toast $42 was decent but a tad salty. Uni bits were delightful. Overall a tad pricey.
-The dry aged wagyu striploin $115 was very tender and perfectly medium rare. Of course you can technically get nice wagyu anywhere but we still opted for this because it sounded the most appetizing. Filled us up...the rice, pickled veggies, and sweet potato with kimchee spice..
-Mugwort soup-very very unique. I love mugwort-y things so had to get this. Slightly sweet with crispy walnut bits..it was actually very delicious.
Really highly recommend this place! Too bad their a la carte menu will be gone (in a week they said) and will turn into set course menus~ I can't remember how much they said but price point is super affordable.Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 6Oh no 0 - Jul R.Los Angeles, CA5145Apr 11, 2024
Would have been ranked in my top 5 restaurants in all of Koreatown (maybe LA????!) before the menu shift tbh, their a la carte menu was elite. I rec'ed it to friends and coworkers with the highlight being their dry-aged wagyu. It came with chicken-y, ginger-y rice and a bunch of pickled veggies, soft sweet potatoes w/ kimchi puree that all complimented each other great. The smaller plates weren't messing around either -- the fresh bluefin tuna, savory and earthy stuffed chicken wings, the maitake mushroom with egg yolk powder... all so good, great flavor balance.
Fast forward to now -- tried their new tasting menu and its fine, but nothing special imo. They have some of the elements from the previous menu but it doesn't taste the same. Price is also higher which is understandable (20% service fee is now included, but hopefully most ppl were tipping 20% anyway).
I've gone about 4-5 times now (had the wagyu and different small plates each time), but probably won't be going back for the tasting menu :( I respect their adventurous spirit in wanting to try something new, though!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - David P.Buena Park, CA1833710Feb 28, 2024
I came here about 6 months ago, and this place has stuck with me ever since.
As a young chef, about 10 years into my career, this place opened my eyes to what I have been and what I could be doing. On the cusp of opening my newest restaurant, my experience dining in here has given me a lot of inspiration.
The attention to detail, the amount of love invested in each plate (it's obvious), and the warmness of the staff was eye opening to say the least. I must have ordered everything twice and the mushroom three times... If ever there was a point in my career I could point to and say, "this is what did it." hibi. would be it.
Daniel, thank you so much for the meal you and the team prepared; and thank you for the inspiration I needed to fall in love with food again.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 13, 2024
I haven't had a meal that wowed me like this one did in a while. Every single dish was actually so delicious and meticulously made. Given that set menus can be upwards of $200 per person, the price for the amount of food here was a great deal as well. The service was amazing--each dish was explained in detail and the dishes were coursed at a comfortable pace. Though it's a small space, it doesn't feel crowded and the decor and seating made it feel clean and modern. Would highly recommend making a reservation here for any special occasion!

Celebrated Valentine's Day at @madebyhibi , and their beautifully plated and masterfully crafted dishes definitely made this one of the most memorable meals I've had this year! This 2023 @michelinguide approved spot specializes in elevated, modern Japanese fine dining with a Korean influence. I chose to order more seafood-based items, and I was impressed with the sophistication and complexity of every dishes' flavor profile, how they weren't overly savory, and how the chefs were able to emphasize the natural sweetness and textures of every fish/shellfish. Service was very kind and attentive, and every server knew the ins and outs of every dish they were presenting to us. Highly recommend checking them out for a special occasion, and congratulations on the well-deserved mention in the @michelinguide !

It's a very cozy and modern decor/ambiance type of restaurant. There's not too many tables so it's highly recommended to call or reserve prior to coming to the restaurant.
We ordered the scallop, uni toast, tomahawk, and their one and only dessert option (pepper ice cream on top of this bar/cake)
The presentation of the food was on the higher scale-reminds me of Michellin style type of restaurant. Service was also amicable-attentive but not too overbearing.
As for the food, everything was decent-creative and well marinated; however, maybe I was having so much expectation but I felt it was not spectacular "wow" that I was hoping for...I felt I could have find similar style dishes elsewhere for a more reasonable price and such...I did not get the sense I craved to come back...Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 18, 2024
1. Japanese sea bream set - 7.5
2. Maitake mushrooms - 6
3. Stuffed chicken wing w/ garlic rice & perilla leaf - 8
4. Abalone with barley risotto - 8.5
I came with my significant other to celebrate our anniversary, and the restaurant had a very fancy and intimate setting. The servers were attentive and described each dish when they were served. The dishes were objectively good, but none had that wow factor that makes my eyes widen. At this price point, not sure if it's worth coming back, but it was a good experience for the first time. Would recommend if you're a big fan of lighter Japanese flavors and binchotan grill.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Dec 31, 2023
Finally had the opportunity to try hibi. with my friend after seeing videos on social media. We wanted to eat a little earlier than the reservation I made and the staff kindly accommodated us.
My friend and I both thought that it was a cute place and was perfect for a date night.
We ordered the truffle tuna appetizer, abalone, maitake mushroom and uni toast for starters. Our main was the wagyu strip loin.
The truffle tuna's presentation was impressive and it had these little puffed rice pieces that added a nice texture- 10/10
Maitake mushroom with the sauce was delicious and we ate it with the steak for a nice pairing -10/10
Neither of us really enjoyed the uni toast unfortunately...the cheese and uni just didn't fit our palette 1/10
The abalone was decent but nothing about it stood out to us - 6/10
The wagyu strip loin was very tasty. It came with a side of potato, garlic rice and some pickled vegetables. My friend mentioned she didn't wanna eat too much but the meat was so good that she couldn't resist. It was also perfect for 2 people - 10/10
Hibi. Also has a Suntory draft beer which was a perfect beverage for our meal.
Will definitely revisit soon. They are going to switch over to a tasting menu in 2024 and we hope that it will be successful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Dec 7, 2023
The parking situation seemed ok, but it's not free. A guy chased us into the restaurant stating that we owed him $4 for parking. So just keep that in mind - have spare change on you.
The space is small, but they optimised it by placing the tables strategically to allow the best flow for traffic. The decor is minimalist zen but with an industrial edge.
Oh but I must tell you about the food. The elote was delicious. The mix of corn with whatever togarashi seasoning they put on it just made it melt in my mouth. The tomahawk pork katsu was to die for. The iberico pork made with their house curry and fermented mustard was *chef's kiss* perfect. The binchotan grilled fish with a yuzu beurre Blanc was a masterpiece - I didn't think it would be that flavorful but it was. And my favorite part, the dessert, which was a miso caramel thing that tasted like food for the gods - it was the perfect ending.
I would only caution folks to expect the portions to be small. (For example, the abalone was sliced into pieces that were no bigger than a fingernail. That's because they're expensive to harvest. The tomahawk pork katsu is supposed to be a family serving but it's only good for one, really.) Just temper expectations and you'll be fine.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
