Ingo's Tasty Diner Is Santa Monica's New Throwback Dinner Destination

The retro space has a menu to match.

Farley Elliott is the Senior Editor at Eater LA and the author of Los Angeles Street Food: A History From Tamaleros to Taco Trucks. He covers restaurants in every form, from breaking news to the culture, people, and history that surrounds LA's dining landscape.

Take a look inside of Ingo’s Tasty Diner, the latest casual Santa Monica spot from the Misfit folks. Housed inside of what was for decades Callahan’s, the LGO Hospitality group decided to return to a bit of mid-century glory, complete with black and white artwork and lots of countertop seating.

Look for tight black booths and lots of Formica inside, along with a classically simple bar setup and plenty of brassy touches. Even the light up signage outside is meant to revive the old glory of the place.

On the menu, farm-to-table options hew towards the retro, with dishes like a white fish club sandwich, char-grilled broccoli and a $46 rib chop for two. Luckily, the draft beer list is as modern and crafty as ever, while a small selection of wines are mostly offered by the glass. Check here for the full menu.

Ingo’s Tasty Diner soft-opened last night, and will be serving dinner only for now. Happy hour runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with dinner picking up at 5 p.m. (closed on Tuesdays).
