Prof. dr. N. Hâncu: We must learn to build our own food pyramid

A healthy diet requires first knowing the main food groups and their nutritional values and calories, says prof. Dr. N. Hâncu, whereby one of the most known and used methods that help the smooth functioning of the body is ” food pyramid.

“Food pyramid comprises four layers/ categories of food and helps to properly use foods we have and we need to enjoy a healthy diet and thus a healthy weight, “says prof. Hâncu.

The first layer consists of cereals and cereal products rich in carbohydrates and fiber, while the next, consisting of  fruits and vegetables, is also rich in carbohydrates and fructose.

The third layer includes foods high in calories from protein: milk, cheese, yogurt, meat, poultry, fish, eggs and bean products.

The top of the pyramid is occupied by fat foods and sugar products, which are the richest in calories, carbohydrates and fats mainly saturated fat.

Specialists in nutrition advise that the first two food layers  to be consumed daily, the third layer with moderation, while the top of the food pyramid recommends caution. Only in this way we can enjoy the benefits of a proper diet based on caloric and nutritional balance, “says prof. Dr. Hâncu, author of “ ABC of Nutrition .
Each person must calculate the calorie needs based on food habits and energy consumption during the  daily activities.
