Explore Fisgas de Ermelo

For people who like adventure 😎

Sometimes all we need is to spend some time far away from the caos of the cities and just enjoy nature.

If you’re exploring Porto, Viseu or Guimarães and if you have a rented car, you can reach Fisgas de Ermelo in 1 hour and 30 minutes +/- (or 40 minutes from Vila Real).

If you enjoy water, you can choose between Piocas de Baixo (my favorite) or Piocas de Cima - you’ll have to walk to get there, so you should wear comfortable shoes instead of flip-flops.

Fisgas de Ermelo is one of the largest waterfalls in Europe. I heard that you can find great views if you try the walking trail (PR3 Fisgas de Ermelo) - but I can’t write about it yet because I’ve never done it.

You will find Fisgas de Ermelo in the municipality of Mondim de Basto, inside the Alvão Natural Park. I also have to tell you that you should choose the N304 road - considered as the best driving road in Europe by Ford.

If you stilll have some free time in the evening, my suggestion is that you visit the Senhora da Graça Sanctuary (the sunset there is amazing!) and the village of Mondim de Basto (Zona Verde, Rio Cabril, etc.)

Visit the old train station of Mondim de Basto (located in Veade, in the other side of the Tâmega River) if you want to enjoy a breathtaking view that reminds you of a postcard picture.
