That looks normal to me. If the display were not all black, you'd never notice. Plus, you've probably got the brightness turned up all the way. Try that with any other LCD display and you'll see the same thing.

I'm not sure what the OP is using for a laptop, but that's a lot of blotchy backlight bleed. YI agree the screen brightness can greatly increase the contrast where it makes it look worse than what it is, but judging by that picture, that seems like quite a bit of light bleed.
