Collective. One hundred frontispieces. Paris, F. L. Schmied, 1918. Six fascicles bound in one volume. With : Collection of original drawings and proofs for the Cent Frontispices. 1 volume. Set of two volumes in-4 dark brown jansenist morocco, spine ribbed, gilt title, double gilt fillet on the inside, brown moire lining and endpapers, gilt on witnesses, in slipcases (F.L.S.). This suite of woodcut frontispieces was to comprise 10 issues, each containing 10 frontispieces. Only the first six fascicles having been able to appear, the complete collection thus includes 60 frontispieces, composed and engraved on wood by Charles MARTIN, LEPERE, G. BARBIER, SIMEON, BONFILS, VOX, LEPAPE, JOU, Émile BERNARD, LABOUREUR, BRACONS, WELCHES, BRANDEL, STERN, KARPELES, J. BUHOT, BRUYER, LE BRETON. The second volume contains for published frontispieces 66 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS and STATE TESTS, and for unpublished frontispieces 44 DRAWINGS, AQUARELLES OR STATE TESTS by Ch. MARTIN, JOU, VOX, BRACONS, LEMERCIER, BARBIER, F. L. SCHMIED, LE BRETON, Jean BERQUE, etc. The edition of the suite "Cent frontispices" was limited to 50 copies. Each of these proofs and each drawing is annotated in pencil by the publisher F. L. Schmied to whom this unique collection belonged and which was bound in his workshop.
