Family: Boraginaceae Juss.
Distribution: Europe except the Arctic region, Western Siberia, introduced and naturalized in Northern America.
Ecology: It grows on sunny slopes and pastures, by roadsides and on wastelands, from lowlands to foothills. Flowers from June to September.
Description: A biennial or perennial herb with an erect stem, 20–120 cm high. In the first year it produces a rosette of leaves and in the second year flowers. The basal leaves are petiolate, lanceolate, stem leaves linear-lanceolate, sessile. The flowers in axillary cyme, calyx hairy, corolla funnel-shaped, blue, pink, rarely white.
Note: The Viper’s Bugloss was considered a good treatment for viper bites.
